Mike Sanford a candidate for the Arizona coaching job
Did not see this coming but it's like waking up on Christmas morning and seeing Santa brought you everything on your list . If this happens.

Well other than the same AD who thought this was a great ideal for a hire. Will be making this one. Might be hope yet...I was looking for a 3 to 5 win season next year

Arizona’s head coaching search is starting to have more twists and turns than a whodunit movie.

Late Wednesday night, 247Sports.com reported that Western Kentucky coach Mike Sanford Jr. has become a “major candidate” for the Arizona football head coaching vacancy.

Sanford, 6-7 this season in his first year as a head coach, was not mentioned before as a candidate at Arizona, but now he is considered a finalist with the coaching search reaching its eighth day after Rich Rodriguez was fired.

This latest news came after a report earlier in the evening that Troy coach Neal Brown, who reportedly was interviewed, is no longer a candidate.

Why would they want him?

The most bizzare thing is if you go to the Arizona message board they are actually excited about the prospects of hiring him.

Would his system mesh better there right away, maybe?

RE: Mike Sanford a candidate for the Arizona coaching job
Arizona is a running team and has a really good running QB.....

Mike Sanford is a really good coach and he will be the first to say so. Don't question the why's because this is like a freaking gift for Western. Not many times do you have a coach that took a team that won 23 games in 2 seasons into a loser and then get that loser taken off your hands. And get paid for it.

The whys are not important! Please don't screw this up, Arizona

Are y'all not worried at all about him using this to negotiate a raise and extension at Western?

If that happened the AD needs to be fired before the contract was approved by the Western board. Most Western fans are counting the days till this coach is gone. At least the one's I know and sitting with in earshot of my seat.

I dont twitter so I don't know what the feeling of Sanford is on there but message boards it's probably ...10 against to every 1 that supports him

Raise, extension for what? We finished 6-7 after 6 straight winning seasons prior, even he would know it would be a bad look if he asked for any extension/raise....He already started out with much higher pay than most first year head coaches in FBS...

I doubt Arizona could be this dumb if they really do hire Sanford, makes zero sense how he is even a candidate?...Its like they just completely ignored what he did this past season in his first season...

They say things come in 3s.

Good and bad.

Well #1 would be Josh Anderson becoming eligible. #2 was yesterday with Moustapha Diagne becoming eligible. If this were to become #3 it might be the best one of the bunch and I’m thrilled with JA and MD becoming eligible.

No freaking way this happens. I can’t imagine how good this guy is in an interview. That’s the only thing that explains Todd Stewart throwing the kind of money he did at Sanford. Or for Arizona to even be giving him a look. Someone send his ass back west.

Yep, with that bowl loss I believe MT now has the longest streak of winning/non-losing seasons in the league.

If this happens, I'm totally expecting Mitchell Robinson to suit up for the 'Toppers tonight, as it is clearly Western's week.

He was just waiting for the rest of the guys to get cleared. Now he can show up and not have to go to class at all.

If that happened it would be a good thing for ODU at this point, he would disrupt our chemistry for sure...By all accounts Moustopha is a very populate teammate and is always cheering on his teammates, they are thrilled along with everyone else that he is cleared...

@BradBGDN
A report surfaced last night that WKU coach Mike Sanford has emerged as a “major candidate” for the Arizona job.

WKU AD Todd Stewart said he talked to Sanford who said “there is no truth to that” and that “he is committed to the WKU job and excited about the future here.”

I hope like hell Sanford is lying to Todd's face

No offense to the Tops, but this is a serious "WTF" moment for Arizona.
