2018: C-USA's bowl tie-ins
I've compiled a list of what C-USA's bowl tie-ins are in 2018:

> Bahamas Bowl vs. American
> Boca Raton Bowl vs. MAC
> Hawai‘i Bowl vs. Mountain West
> Heart of Dallas Bowl vs. Big 10
> New Mexico Bowl vs. MAC
> New Orleans Bowl vs. Sun Belt
Independence Bowl vs. SEC/ACC (secondary)
Frisco Bowl vs. American (secondary)

Curious where the Frisco secondary is listed.

The contract for the Frisco Bowl is American vs. at-large from either C-USA, MAC, Sun Belt, or BYU.

You can find it on the bowl's website https://www.dxlfriscobowl.com/ or ESPN Events http://espnevents.com/ since they are the ones who organize it.

Trash bowls as usual. Only 1 bottom dweller p5 matchup like Illinois. Its a shame. Hopefully we pic up a backdoor to at least one more p5 this year for the champ. We can't have our champion playing a MAC team again.

First we need to not trade HOD away. Hopefully we can pick up Indy vs. ACC again. But if an Eastern school wins the championship, I don’t see either of those bowls wanting them.

Our champ will be in the playoff if they go at least 13-0, or possibly the access bowl if they lose one.

NM Bowl vs the MAC? Not the MWC?

Yup. I thought it was strange as well, but it has vs. MAC on ESPN Events' schedule.

Agreed. We need to keep the HOD this season. Actually, I had no idea we were getting it back next season. That is great news, if true. I also agree we need to add a higher profile game for the best team in the east. FAU should have had a better match up this past bowl season.

A real shame that ESPN didn’t pull the necessary strings to set up FAU vs USF. That could’ve had a big crowd and a lot of attention.

I think the Boca Raton Bowl is our biggest bowl. We just need to have better opponent there than the likes of Akron..

Akron was probably saying the same thing. 'We've got to play FAU, never heard of them.' Being a nice destination doesn't matter much as far as 'biggest bowl'. It falls short in attendance, TV viewers, payout, and class of opponent. The HOD bowl is our biggest bowl.

Not according to the league's office, apparently. Boca Raton Bowl is where C-USA champions had gone most often, in the last 5 years.

You think the league's office is the decision maker where each bowl team goes? Do you think if NT had won the CCG they would have been in the Boca Rotan bowl? Besides, the 'biggest' bowl isn't always where the CC goes... obviously. Could the Boca Rotan develop in to our biggest bowl... yes. The payout needs to be better to draw better teams. Don't complain about having to play Akron when the payout is only $800k.

I think that's because the champ has been coming out of the east and the western bowls don't want eastern schools who aren't going to travel well the day after Christmas. Let western teams start winning championships and I guarantee they won't be going to the boca bowl. They'll be going to HOD.

RE: 2018: C-USA's bowl tie-ins
The Boca Raton Bowl is neither our biggest nor best bowl. More often than not, the Champ got a bowl that paid significantly less money, a lesser opponent, and a worse bowl package for the players.

2013 - Rice went to the Liberty Bowl while Marshall went to the Military Bowl (Both played P5 opponents)
2014 - Marshall went to the Boca Raton Bowl while LaTech went to the HOD bowl against a P5
2015 - WKU went to the Miami Beach Bowl while USM went to the HOD bowl against a P5 opponent.
2016 - WKU went to the Boca Raton Bowl while LaTech went to the Armed Forces Bowl
2017 - FAU went to the Boca Raton Bowl while UNT went to the NOLA bowl

To put it further into perspective, let's look at the payouts of the bowls we went to this year or have recently gone:

HOD - $1,667,000
Indy - $1,486,200
NM - $1,050,000
Gasparilla - $1,000,000
NOLA - $925,000
Boca Raton - $850,000
Cure - $802,000
Camellia - $250,000
Bahamas - $225,000
Frisco - $100,000

So no, it isn't the best.

We will go wherever ESPN tells us to go. That's the bottom line regardless of the primary/secondary stuff. The east will have limited options while the 3rd or 4th place team in the West gets a bowl <100 miles from home. A tradition as old as time for CUSA 4.0 or whatever version we're on.

I agree MTo. The real issue is a lack of bowls in the east. By looking at our bowl ties-ins for 2018 (including our secondaries) we have 2 destinations, 1 in Florida, 2 in Louisiana, 2 in Texas, and 1 in New Mexico. I understand our headquarters are located in Irving, Texas, but if this conference is to remain as expansive as Norfolk, VA to El Paso, TX, we need to start to incorporate opportunities for our eastern members. I know we had other bowls in Florida and Alabama this past season, but that was only due to the fact that we traded our best bowl tie-in (Heart of Dallas Bowl) to get as many C-USA bowl bids as possible. If C-USA East continues to win the conference championship and continues to get shafted in bowl selections, I could see a movement happen. I know ESPN most likely has the final say (as they operate most of our bowl tie-ins), but something just needs to be done about this.

Agree, however HOD wasn't a CUSA team, but P5vsP5. not sure if payout is same if CUSA team in.

Agree, need a bowl in VA or NC.
