First off all Jones' current term doesn't end until 2021.
Secondly, Jones will running for re-election in the same election as Trump. Jones could win.

I buy that as much as I buy the claims of politicians that if Volkswagen unionized in Tennessee they'd leave the state. VW made it clear all along they were fine with it if the whole plant went union they just weren't going to deal with a piecemeal approach. The German unions have several seats on the board so VW wasn't going to be completely anti-union and has actually advocated for a German style cooperative approach but the UAW wanted to unionize small specific worker groups instead of going for a whole plant vote.
