Candidate for Illinois attorney general robbed at gunpoint in Chicago
A lib Dem gets a lesson in reality in Chicago....which he will of course ignore.
Quote:candidate running for Illinois attorney general was robbed at gunpoint while he was taking promotional photos for his campaign Thursday afternoon in the Northwest Side ward where he’s also the Democratic committeeman, according to his campaign manager and authorities.
Aaron Goldstein, 42, and several members of his campaign team were in the middle of taking publicity shots when the robbery happened, according to Goldstein’s campaign manager.
The robbery took place about 3:25 p.m. in the 4600 block of North Albany Avenue in Albany Park, when three men in their early 20s approached them, according to a law-enforcement source.
One of the men flashed a handgun and demanded the camera equipment and other personal belongings from the team, according to police.
The gunman and two other men robbed Goldstein and four others of camera equipment and their cellphones before they ran away, the law enforcement source said. As of Thursday evening, no one was in custody, police said.
Police described the three suspects as between 20 and 24 years old. They did not release a detailed description of the suspects.
Campaign manager Robert Murphy, who was not with the team during the incident, said Goldstein, Democratic ward committeeman for the 33rd Ward and a resident of Albany Park, was taking promotional images for the campaign with an “in-the-neighborhood kind of” message.
Goldstein and the others weren’t harmed in the robbery, and they were later assured by police that the robbery wasn’t a targeted act, Murphy said.
“So, as far as the campaign, we are moving forward,” Murphy said. “Basically, this was a totally a random act of violence in the community. But when it happens to you, of course, you’re shooken up.
“He says he’s fine, and he was concerned about everyone else instead of how he is – but that’s just how he is.”
Goldstein is one in a field of eight candidates who are running in the Democratic primary for attorney general after Lisa Madigan announced she wouldn’t run for reelection. Goldstein, a supervising attorney at the Cook County Public Defender’s Office, unseated longtime incumbent and former Ald. Dick Mell to become the 33rd Ward Democratic committeeman in 2016.

Reminds me of the movie “Crash” (2004) where the white-liberal District Attorney (Brendan Fraser) of Los Angeles gets carjacked in broad daylight.
Later in the film, he’s shown asking his staff to go find a black person that he can give an anti-crime medal to, in order to prove that the carjacking didn’t make him become racist.
That movie was way overrated but it did have a few moments of reality (like the above) that the film-industry usually avoids.
