right now-
Wichita has wins over 37 Marquette(neutral), 49 Houston, 59 South Dakota St, @ 78 UConn, @ 86 Baylor, @ 95 Okla St, and @ 125 Tulsa as tier 1/2 wins
Cincy has wins over 27 Buffalo(neutral), @ 46 UCLA, @ 52 Temple, 73 Miss St, and 88 Wyoming(neutral) as tier 1/2 wins (SMU home is a tier 3 win right now)
Wichita right now has a much deeper resume in terms of the good wins. And it could get better if UConn, Baylor, and Oklahoma St all move up just a smidge into tier 1.
As a broader statement on the selection process, I thought the committee was going to lean more heavily toward advanced computer metrics like KenPom and Sagarin. Yet it appears they are using RPI for the win tiers....
You are right on both counts. They are going to start encouraging the use of advanced metrics instead of discouraging it. And they are evaluating moving to an advanced metric rating system in the future.
IMO, changing the RPI slots to the Tier system which values road wins and devalues home wins is a big step in the right direction.
WSU has been well-served by advanced metrics like kenPom, but I have reservations about making a rating system that factors margin of victory the official end-all-be-all rating system. I don't like the idea of needing to run up the score whenever possible to sustain/improve your rating for selection/seeding purposes.
RPI already factors home wins at only .66 and factors road wins at 1.33.
it's actually .6 and 1.4.....
BUT they've changed the ranking groups....
tier 1 used to be any game 1-50. Now it's home 1-30, neutral 1-50, and away 1-75.

When the selection committee looks at WSU vs. Cincy, they are really looking at Marshall vs. Cronin. The comparison with respect to NCAA tournament capability is stark

Not really. Unless making 100% pure factual posts is grounds for a "vacation" now.

Lol, you all definitely have the talent. I think both UConn and Memphis are solid teams, just not the very good teams their fan bases and conference are use to seeing. Both can easily be bubble teams this year. I give Tubby another year because of how that whole situation went down, but Ollie and UConn should be closer to regular form. Hopefully both will make a solid run.

That's some stinky bait right there bolded and your first part stretch's the 100% factual by about 90%. But that's none of my business

UConn more than Memphis just because of their SOS. 33 to 95 overall and OOC it is projected to be 23 to 185. Memphis would have to win at least 2 more games than UConn to be in the same place....

Good points so something like 13-6 vs 10-8?
I mean really even 12-7 vs 11-6 would make it pretty close right?
J/k but in all honesty a split series with the wins going to the away team would be the ideal scenario for bids. A sweep probably ends the losing teams chances. Honestly I have them both at 18 wins regular season. If they can manage an upset each and a couple conference tourny wins you are looking at two squarely on the bubble teams, 20+ wins and solid tier 1 and 2 records.

This "basketball conference" is in trouble if we only get three teams in.

3 bids when 3 of the most important programs in the conference won’t be getting a bid.
