RE: The American would be a one-bid league
This simply isn't true. AAC will wind up with at least 3 bids... about 50/50 they get 4.... I'd be equally surprised if they ended up with 2 or 5... Not great because Memphis, UConn and Temple aren't holding up their end, but not as bad as you're making it out to be either.

To a big extent CBS and ESPN mirror the thoughts of the people that make selections for the tournament. The original post just linked their predictions.
Hopefully those predictions are wrong and the AAC gets more than two in.

We do have 9 teams in the rpi 100 though. Probably the best top to bottom ever. Those 2 anchors though. Usf in the 300's.

That is exactly why they talked and made such a big deal about OOC basketball scheduling in the conference meetings last week... the bottom has to pull itself up as to not hurt the top of the conference so bad.

Pitiful. I don't know what else to say.
Weird year....ucf lost two starters for the entire OOC games. Outside of WSU and Cincy there is a group really good, but a bubble at best teams.
I really think we need to add two more basketball schools to offset a few anchors.
I'm not against adding more basketball schools but we could easily solve the problem by raising the anchors.
USF has a new coach with a history of success and I think he'll get them to respectability in a couple of years. Now we just need ECU to make a quality hire and start the march to decency.

No...we don't. Ever.
We at USF, Cincy and UCONN have seen this movie before. It doesn't end well, and won't end well if we add more bball-only schools.

Tulane up to 100 in today's RPI.
Which means The American has 9 teams in the Top 100 of the RPI - Cincinnati, Wichita State, Temple, SMU, Houston, UCF, Memphis, UConn, Tulane.
That's more than the Big East, Big Ten and Big 12.

One problem with that claim. If Wichita isn't around, Houston doesn't lose to them, and Houston at 15-3 would easily be in right now.

AAC doesn't need to add anyone... it needs UConn and Memphis to be top 30 programs again. It needs Temple to be a top 50 program. It needs USF/ECU to be top 150 programs. Get there and the AAC is in great shape. Those aren't crazy goals.

I kind of think 12 is a sweet spot for a league. Don't have the round robin, which can really hurt teams, but still small enough where it's not the monster leagues like the old big east, ACC, etc. are.

At different points in the season we may look like a 2 bid league or a 5-6 bid league. I think it will work itself out in the end and we will end up with 4 bids this season.

Don't introduce positive facts that will derail the objective of the thread.
I mean honestly as someone else stated this is by far the best top to bottom the league has been since inception and some of these programs are in the infancy of their ascend. So I am quietly optimistic and a lot of positives league wide (new stadiums and coaches, etc.). And the two anchors will hopefully right the ship soon. I mean USF has a new coach and ECU will have one. Hopefully at the very least then can get to sub 200. 300+ is just unacceptable. Then we just need former flagships (Memphis, UConn and Temple) to be themselves and the league will be just fine.
