I'm going to submit that the Shockers spent too much time admiring their pretty shooting and their pretty rankings and forgot what got them to this point, which was angry play and ugly defense. Last week they bumped into a couple teams who were hungry as hell and jealous of the Shockers success. They were willing to trade their lives for the win hoping it would make their season. We ended up being out-angried which has been sobering to say the least to most of the knowledgeable Shocker fans I've talked to.

The Shox seem to have temporarily lost their edge. They're too white collar now and need to trade in their Diner's Club cards for lunch buckets and get back to eating Big Macs instead of boeuf bourguignon.

And once again we’re back to the point that a lot of people are ignoring. No one would give a crap if we played decent and lost to Houston. I don’t care that we lost to SMU. If Shake Milton didn’t have a bunch of leprechauns jump up his ass before the game, we win. But those types of things happen in better conferences than the MVC. With our effort on Saturday we lose to every conference opponent besides ECU and USF. Read the game thread on ShockerNet, multiple people said Houston could’ve easily won that game by 30+. We were fortunate to lose by 14. There is a difference between losing and getting dominated in every facet of the game.

First, I wish the Tigers had WSU’s “problem”.

I think the main causes of WSU’s problem (to the extent one exists) are increased competition and relative lack of talent. WSU only has two 4 stars on the roster and (correct me if I am wrong Shocker fans) no likely future NBA player. When the Tigers were relevant, we usually overwhelmed opponents with talent on the off nights all teams experience. WSU does not have the that luxury, IMO.

yup...you play like that at UC, you won't score 50 points and you'll lose by 30

It's only two losses but the season is starting to wear on them, a tough OOC paired with a major step up night in and night out in the American is beginning to take it's toll. There is much more talented depth in this league.

Still tied for second place in a good league though, not the end of the world.

I think it just seems worse than it is because most WSU fans came here thinking you were going to roll over this league and win it outright in year one. Which was never going to happen.

Shamet is a likely draft pick this year and McDuffie is a borderline prospect but your point is fair.

We do have talent but we aren't going to overwhelm most teams on talent alone.

Well if you start off with the premise that Shocktop was really that good, and the two teams SMU and UH were that bad, then it does beg the question of "what's wrong with WSU".

But Occam's Razor (simplest answer is usually the correct one) contends that premise is total BS.

WSU wasn't that good, and SMU and UH weren't that bad.

At some point, y'all need to exit that denial stage.

I thought it was clear that my post meant there is nothing wrong with WSU, it is the premise the question is based on that is BS.

I'f you're not one of those that thinks losing to UH and SMU means WSU is now suffering from some catastrophe, then you and I are actually in agreement.

The answer to that questions is nothing, they just aren't used to losing. They aren't used to losing for 2 reasons. 1) They have a really good program and 2) They played in the MVC.

So of course they lose two in the row and think the sky is falling. This is how it works. If UC or WSU were playing in the ACC or Big 12, we'd be put in a position like UNC losing at VTech last night, panicking, and asking what's wrong with our team. The truth is sometimes teams just play bad, especially on the road.

I will say we played putrid for the Houston game.

As far as the SMU game goes, I think only a handful of teams would’ve been able to beat them that night.

They didn't play bad in Wichita but they did play bad in Houston. As mentioned above, the subject is most likely of more interest on the Shocker board, not here. Most of us have watched a lot of Shocker games and can tell when they just plain aren't even competing hard to win.

Well I agree y'all didn't look great last saturday, it was obvious ya'll weren't playing your best. But if you're refusing to acknowledge the UH defense had something to do with it then you're just being obstinate.

When I watched the replay on espn3, even the announcers were praising the tough Coog defense, giving it all the credit for shutting down WSU.
