In addition to the schools already mentioned, perhaps N.C. State from the ACC and Auburn or South Carolina from the SEC? And if worse comes to worse, Liberty can probably buy up as many of the 160,000 seats as necessary to play there.

They wouldn't travel to Charlotte to open last season.

Curiosity factor. Playing in Charlotte is nice but there's plenty of chances for them to do that, especially if they go to the ACC title game. Playing in the second FBS game to be held at a racetrack is arguably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I don't know how many people would buy in, but my guess is more people would spend the money on a trip to Bristol than they would Charlotte.

Live about 30 miles from the Bristol Track. UT and VT fans far predominate here, but UNC and UK have a sizable minority among t-shirt fans. But they are hoops fans, not football. Other ACC schools are nearly absent, including UVA but need to make an an exception for Clemson . Don't see even App St fans, even though Boone is close. NCST and WFU have no presence. Alabama and Florida do seem to have fans here though.

Nah. The idea that NC State travels is a myth. They hardly traveled to Atlanta when they played Tennessee, they hardly travel to Clemson, and they've hardly traveled to previous Charlotte games.

I bet the track has zip code data on their ticket buyers and a really good handle on where people will travel from.

Obviously one or both of those teams, plus a few others:

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Notre Dame
4. West Virginia

I think a matchup of UT/VT against any of these 4 schools, or any two of the 4 schools listed against each other could draw the crowd. The first three in my list have fans everywhere, and have the fan base that would travel to the game (I remember an OSU game at Cal a few years ago where there was as much Scarlet and Gray in the stadium as blue and yellow). WVU would bring a lot of fans to the event, and if you paired them against Tech or UT, the entire state might travel down for that one.

I'd be absolutely shocked if Bama agreed to a game in that facility.

Right now, we're getting the opportunity to be featured in neutral sites games in Atlanta, Dallas, and this coming season in Orlando. Those are easier to get to and can handle large numbers of tourists at any given time. Not to mention, there is more to do in those cities.

If we're not in a major kickoff game then we'll probably be doing home and home with someone.

There was some talk about doing a game at Talladega, but I would be pretty surprised even by that.

I would think Ohio State and Notre Dame would be in the same boat.

Ii wasn't speaking to the practicality of it, just that those schools have the fan bases to pull off filling the venue.

That's what I was looking for. Closest I could find was this demographics study, but it only hit on age/income/vehicle ownership, not location. But I agree, they must have some sort of data on ticket-buyer location. And it wouldn't surprise me if they did some sort of research about the favorite college football programs of their fans while the first game was in the development stage.

And I have no doubt whatsoever that Clemson vs Georgia would sellout.

Maybe, but why? Bristol is half in VA and half in TN and it had been several years since the two teams played. So it made since and was successful. It seems to me there's better places for these other teams to play neutral site games (Charlotte, Atlanta, etc.). From people I talked to that went it's a crappy venue to watch a football game. The only reason I can see that it'd be a draw is so that fans can break out their RV's and party for three days, which is great. But if TN is not involved, say GA/Clemson then why not go to Daytona. There's a lot more things of interest there than Bristol.

I doubt you'll ever see Clemson play there. It's not worth it financially for us as we make more per home game than most of the payouts. We've turned down Atlanta and Charlotte several times.

But if we were going to play a football game at a race track I'd rather it be Bristol than Daytona. If you think the sightlines at Bristol are bad Daytona would be ten times worse.

Bristol should have a football game and a race at the same time.

Novelty...done. I would have zero interest in watching a game there. I wouldn't want to spend the nut on VG seats and have no desire to sit 150 yards away in the cheaper seats.

I might be talked into tailgating there...but I'd stay in the parking lot and watch the game on TV.

There ain't enough beer in all of East Tennessee to handle the demand.

Possibly Clemson v. South Carolina, WVU v Penn St. Clemson v. UGA, Ohio St. v. WVU

Why would any Big Ten team want to play in East Tennessee and give up a home game? When SEC schools don’t come with in 200 miles of the Mason Dixon Line?
