Tribalism at play. They (PSU, Baylor, MSU) bad, my school good.

Never mind that Baylor fans were saying the same thing post-PSU, and MSU fans were saying the same thing post-Baylor.

Simple solution, maybe don’t be offended when people trash schools that essentially institutionalize sexual assault.

PSU is the face for University scandal. They are a beacon of hope if you have sports as the center of your world. Profile in the rebound.

From the link:

Quote:"I think these people who want to dump on U of L need to stop," he said. "I think it is a university that right now is on its heels. But you know what? They’re not the first one, they won’t be the last one.
"You look at any number of other universities around the country. Penn State some years ago was in a not dissimilar place where a great institution was on its heels because of some noise in the athletic department," he said referring to the 2012 scandal where assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was convicted of sexually abusing children. "And they’ve come right out of the gate just fine thank you. And frankly, their athletics programs are right back on track."

With friends like these.

I'm not offended. PSU screwed up, I've always admitted that. My school's leaders let me down ...... big time.

I do feel there is a tribalism element in some posts in any PSU/MSU/Baylor thread, however. Fair enough. Not sure what greater good that mentality does though.

Predators like Nassar and Sandusky are manipulative and can be very successful at covering their tracks, but eventually, the truth will out. When abuse is reported by a victim or witness, it's very likely that only a few people up the chain of command will be informed and aware of the infraction. Those few in positions of responsibility who are aware and do nothing to immediately investigate and remedy such problems should be punished. But, the non-systemic complicity or negligence of a few bad eggs shouldn't impugn the reputation of an otherwise outstanding educational institution.

The institution is bigger than its people. And in defending that tenet, that's where these dirtbags try to get away with it.

People crap on millennials and younger generations for a lot of things, but their irreverence and skepticism over the value of higher education and its overstated importance will turn the tide on this hubris mega institutions, like Michigan State, feel they can exert. They aren't businesses, and even with so many "smart" people running these places, they fail on so many fronts.

Makes me miss the type of mentality of leaders a century ago, who would have shuttered this place because there were plenty of other great schools out there, and other fledgling institutions lining up for such a big charge. This mentality, a very American one at that, that eternity doesn't need all of these specific institutions, and that others are more current with the times. That it's a service, and there are plenty of providers out there.

It would not bother me if many of these liberal factories were shuttered.
