RE: OT: XFL making a return
There were some positives and some negatives from what I could hear on my drive today during his announcement.

Negatives:

He will be the Principal owner for all teams, and will continue to operate fully both the XFL and WWE.

There will be no franchising. So who will determine who gets hired for what city? I feel like this could lead to many saying a lot of the outcomes are fixed.

Positives:

No politics. Made clear during his press conference that anyone kneeling or politicking outside of social media will be kicked out of the league.

2-hour games.

No halftime.

Simplified rules. We'll finally know what a catch is!

haha, it wasn't even intended to be. As a Charlotte fan, I'm the last fan that can be throwing stones.

ECU would benefit tremendously from that kind of money and he would see the same financial return on investment...none.

Will be interesting to see if he sticks to what appears to be a policy of not allowing players with criminal records. That would eliminate a decent amount of the JUCO talent.

I do believe I called this a month or two ago. It's slated to start in January of 2020.

Anyone have an opinion on starting in January/February as opposed to a Spring or Summer League?

Any criminal record or just like felonies?

McMahon specifically said no DUI's.

So no Kappernick (kneeling) or Manzells in the new XFL.

If I had to guess, they'll eventually winnow it down to felonies or repeat offenders. If they disqualify players with misdemeanors then they're going to cut into their player pool, plus you won't look any better blackballing someone for a mistake they made as a kid than you would having a literal murderer's row of players.

Yea, no opinions! Just shut up play and get concussed! (Ignores all the good social work and charities causes NFL players do)

I will bet money this league might not play a game.

No network that works with the NFL will roll with this, so the eliminates all the major ones.

Also, the same thing will happen the last time with the XFL there will be a huge build up and you will watch a couple games and realize how much the players suck. It's why we watch pro sports to watch the best in the world.

The novelty of watching Tebow spray passes all over the field to some guy who was cut after the 2nd preseason game a few months earlier will wear off.

RE: OT: XFL making a return
If they play in smaller MLS sized stadiums, play in the spring, and get the best players possible I think it has a chance. They should also experiment with new rules like no punts once you cross the 50 yard line and 4 points for a 50+ yard FG.

I agree with others that the league needs to operate in the spring/summer to be successful.

I think Birmingham is a safe bet. As well as San Diego and St Louis with them not have NFL teams anymore.

My Guess:

West
San Diego
San Antonio
Oklahoma City
Salt Lake or Honolulu

East
Orlando
Memphis
St Louis
Birmingham

I doubt this would have any impact on UTSA or UAB but if the XFL does somewhat succeed does that affect UTSA/UAB's bottom line because now you're competing for entertainment $$$ from fans. I realize each school has their core base but as far as trying to attract new fans, would this throw a kink into those plans? Not stirring the pot here, honest question

Not a UAB or UTSA guy (though I guess Norfolk is a possible landing spot for a team), but I don't think it'd make that much of a difference. The XFL is playing in the winter and won't compete directly against college football. Unless there's fans out there that have a immutable yearly football budget that would force them to choose between a Birmingham Crowdsourced Nicknames game and a UAB one, I suspect that current and prospective college football won't be affected by the XFL team that much.
