RE: [split] AAC TV proposal
(01-25-2018 01:42 PM)YNot Wrote:  Here's a move that could be financially justified - NBC should go after an expanded AAC package. With Notre Dame plus expanded AAC inventory, they could better compete with ABC, CBS, and FOX, and become a major college football outlet.

Based on the key targets and who they have on future OOC schedules, NBC would likely direct the AAC to add BYU, Boise St., SDSU, and UNLV.

Look at what NBC (OTA channel) could have for a college football package in 2020:

Week 0: California at UNLV
Week 1: Notre Dame at Navy
Week 2: Arkansas at Notre Dame; Michigan St. at BYU
or North Carolina at UCF; or West Virginia at ECU; or Arizona St. at UNLV
Week 3: WMU at Notre Dame; Florida St. at Boise St.
Week 4: Indiana at UConn (or move one of the Week 2 or Week 3 games here)
Week 5: Wisconsin at Notre Dame
Week 6: Stanford at Notre Dame
Week 7: TBD AAC game (Houston at BYU, for example)
Week 8: TBD AAC game (USF at Memphis, for example)
Week 9: Duke at Notre Dame
Week 10: Clemson at Notre Dame
Week 11: TBD AAC game (Navy at Houston, for example)
Week 12: Louisville at Notre Dame
Week 13: TBD AAC games (UCF at USF; BYU at Boise St.)
Week 14: AAC Conference Championship

7 open weeks, with no Notre Dame. There is worthwhile AAC inventory for OTA college football games each open week - and an additional game to compliment Notre Dame in some weeks, including Notre Dame at Navy game, Florida St. at Boise, Michigan St. at BYU, the conference championship, the Week 0 stage, and Thanksgiving weekend.

In subsequent years, there are equally awesome games, like Oklahoma at Tulane, Texas at USF, South Carolina at ECU, Oklahoma St. at Boise St., Arizona v. BYU (in new Vegas stadium), Mississippi St. at Memphis, Nebraska at Cincinnati, more Notre Dame at Navy, Miami at Temple, Louisville at USF, etc.

NBC could get 8-9 quality games for OTA broadcast and another 25 games or so for NBCsports for not much more than NBC currently pays Notre Dame for 7 games.

The AAC could have a separate 25-game package for ESPN, mostly for Thursday, Friday, and late Saturday broadcasts (where ESPN might be willing to spend more to get quality inventory). And, of course, AAC basketball enhances both the NBC and ESPN packages.

Anyway, this is the kind of move that could legitimize the P6 claim. Most of the expanded AAC schools are similar to the lower end of the P5.

Come on man, you stole my thread. The only difference is you put in your BYU fantasies. I’ll bump my thread right after I send this...smh.

it's not my money, but i've always been a proponent of taking less if meant a game of the week on NBC over the air. free tv is what builds sports brands. the kids can see it anywhere and your product just feels more important. put that same UCF/USF game on ESPN2 instead of ABC and it wouldn't have the same big time feel.

RE: [split] AAC TV proposal
I know that YNot is a BYU fan that seems to support joining the AAC in some capacity, but make no mistake about it: the reason why BYU isn't in the AAC is because *BYU* doesn't want anything to do with it. If BYU wanted to join, then the AAC would take them in a heartbeat. However, the fact of the matter is that BYU will absolutely, positively, NEVER structurally allow itself to be deemed inferior to Utah, which means that it will stay independent (regardless of any TV money or access bowl arguments) unless it receives a P5 invite. This is 100% about image and prestige for BYU even more than money (e.g. "We can get an independent TV deal with ESPN because we have a national fan base... unlike Utah!").

Now, whether MWC schools could be added in a football-only capacity is a different matter. Boise State is really the crux of it (and they have a pretty good deal with the MWC): without them involved, then any western expansion won't work.

We don't want any of the dying midget conference and those teams bring nothing to the AAC.

We already have plenty of inventory and relationships with NBC, CBS, ABC, and ESPN.

This thread belongs on the realignment board at best and is weak trolling at worst.

Can we move or lock this before we're overflowing with g4 please?

The irony is that this WAS posted in the P5 section of the realignment board. P5 mods split it and moved it here, but multiple AAC fans don't want it.

Not surprising. The mods over there are a sad, sad bunch. How do you ban HuskyU? Sad!

Realignment board has a p5 section? Is that where the NIT football champs hang out, and get excited over their 3rd place SEC trophy.

Yeah that’s the point he’s making Frank. BYU would join the AAC in this proposal scenario because it includes other Mountain West teams and a contract with NBC.

NBC is a really good brand and I like their look

But casual College fans won't tune in the channel usually. (NBCSN)

But overall, I like NBC

I think the won't tune it part was in reference to NBCSN. meaning a game of the week on OTA NBC is not worth the diminished viewership that the majority of games would receive on NBCSN. i think it would be worth it.

We won't be signing a single network deal, we will be dividing up our inventory
