Big 12/SEC Challenge
I've come to really like mid-season non-conference games and I frankly wish we had more of them. But anyway, this set of games is always fun to have.

List of Saturday's games and the Kansas City Star rates them by watchability.

Each game will be available on an ESPN network.

Also, some interesting tidbits on how this set of games could affect Tournament selection...

Of course, I'm most looking forward to Alabama and Oklahoma. The game is sold out and I won't be there, but this one is absolutely huge for us. A marquee win against a top team is what we need to really cement our place in the Tournament.

Hopefully Colin Sexton is ready to play.

Well we might have had a chance against KU before Kennedy once again Kennedy'd It again and took a team many were predicting to make the Elite 8 to last place in the SEC and most likely not making the tournament at all.

Really hope our AD cans this guy which is way overdue but unfortunately the rumor is that several big money donors feel super sorry for him because of the Parkinson's diagnosis and are making sure he doesn't leave until his contract is done and he takes us for every last cent.

So yay

Only 3 more years of squandering talent and not making the tournament!

Auburn and three of our mid tier schools L.S.U., Mississippi State, and Missouri aren't scheduled for this one. I have to believe that Auburn would have been the better match up for T.C.U. than a substandard Vanderbilt. The rest is hard to say. But clearly T.C.U. is one of their better hoops products this year.

While I love that the SEC is getting smarter about manipulating their scheduling OOC to boost the league-wide RPI, I do recognize that that early season wins impact RPI alot, and then teams just play in-conference and "bulk up." Matchup like todays are probably better barometers than early season tournament games. Go SEC.

OU is easy to beat, double team Trae Young, he’ll either turn the ball over or take awful very low percentage shots. 90% of their offense runs through him and it’s a shame because it ruins the concept of team sports

I hope A&M gets the right AD to make these coaching changes. Sumlin didn’t pan out and B.B. program hasn’t quite taken off yet withering

Woodward seems serious about going out and getting the best guy possible (he got Jimbo when so many were ready to settle for Chad Morris) but he also approved Kennedys extension after the fluke sweet 16 year. And like I said, apparently several big boosters are good friends with Kennedy and are more than willing to let our MBB team be his golden parachute since he's done coaching after us.

RE: Big 12/SEC Challenge
Big Kudos the Conference! The SEC takes the SEC/B12 challenge 6-4. Alabama and Kentucky had wins over Oklahoma and West Virginia (two ranked teams). Vanderbilt earned an impressive upset over T.C.U. Arkansas won a nail biter against Okie State. And the Gators and Tennessee blew out Baylor and Iowa State.

Ole miss got out-sized by the Texas front line. South Carolina lost a lead late to Texas Tech. Georgia had some tough calls go against them at Kansas State. And Texas A&M lost by 11 at Kansas.

In conference play Auburn led by as many as 32 (making 11 3pt buckets in the first half alone) and cruised past L.S.U.

Missouri and Miss State are wrapping up a close one right now.

Still all in all it was a stellar day for the SEC!

And Kentucky was down by 15 at the half. I thought they were done at that point although I thought maybe they could make it respectable. Heck of an effort from them in the 2nd half.

Great job, SEC! Was hoping we wouldn't let the league down at the end and could get the win to put us over the top - especially after the ESPN talking heads had already marked the win to WVU and wondered if Arkansas "could hold on versus Oklahoma State to make it a 5-5 tie". Sweet win! UK has done the heavy lifting for the league for so long, I am just glad so many of our brothers are doing so well this year.

South Carolina and Georgia both really should have won, we easily could have gone 8-2, and that's with our first-place team not even participating this year.

Great job, all around!

Somebody is going to have to explain to me very carefully why North Carolina can lose 6 games and be ranked 10th and Kentucky can lose 5 against a daunting schedule and not be ranked. And why Auburn with 2 losses still languishes behind a bevy of 4 and 5 loss schools in the rankings.

No, they just try to punish it to take out their frustrations over our football dominance. They really don't like for us to win at all three major men's sports. And our baseball is pretty danged good!

This is exactly right, JR. I have wondered for years why the difference in how our teams move in the rankings versus the others. SEC always has to do so much to get ranked to begin with (see your Tigers taking FOREVER to finally get their justified ranking, took forever to get UT ranked too, and countless other examples over the years), yet seems our teams are quickly punished when they do lose. Florida was upset at home vs SC, but bounced back this past weekend with a crushing of a vaunted B12 team in Baylor. I fully expect UF to no longer be ranked though, especially if they put UK back in. Can't have too many of us in there, ya know!

SEC vs SEC national championship games in football, baseball and women's basketball, not to mention having three of the final eight in men's basketball last year shows we're pretty good and they can suck it!

I've been one of the biggest supporters of expansion for basketball and academic reasons. But if we keep this up, and we keep having "down years in football" maybe ive got it backwards.
