I wonder how much the LaChance (Vandy) kid weighs ?

I say the jumpshot is the great equalizer.

Hueitt doesn't have the power of the porn 'stache, though.

Yes...........big time

Always choked (or an ill-timed injury to a star player) in tournaments too.

But Kermit also never had any losing seasons.

His great public speaking ability did not hurt him, either. He's a likeable guy...... always quick to say "hello" at the local Kroger if he runs into you. Very active in the community.

He evolved with time. Turned his anger toward the refs instead of the players, and became more of a "fatherly" figure. I guess winning helps.

I don't think our assistants get enough credit, either. We have been able to retain assistants that have several years of head-coaching experience between them.

A lot of people were. No one ever questioned his X's and O's abilities, but a lot of folks questioned his ability to recruit to MT. But in hindsight what we learned is that he was actually recruiting decent players back then but his Bob Knight style wasn't clicking with the first generation of Millennial kids. If you could go back and look at the sheer number of players that left in Kermit's first seven or eight years it was like a revolving door. Every year half the team would be new and that would even happen in a year without any seniors. Today no one leaves. You look at guys like Reggie Upshaw and Giddy Potts who could do what a vast majority of kids are doing these days and transferring out and up, but no one leaves the MT program once they get here now.

So, I give him an immense amount of credit, because he evolved and he changed. He's a much different coach now than he was 10 years ago. He can still get into some grills but by comparison he's much more mellow now. Maybe he started smokin weed??

As for Jones he's averaging 20+ wins per year and he's going to get you there again this year. I think the situations are very different. I can't imagine Jones being let go with those types of numbers. I get it though. It's somewhat similar to Stockstill. Wins enough games to hang around but doesn't get over the hump, but again the situation in basketball is different. Every good basketball program right now in C-USA (the handful that are good) is a victim of the conference's circumstance right now. A smaller league that had just MT, wkcc, ODU, Marshall, La Tech and few others that aren't habitually 250+ RPI teams could and likely would be a multi bid league. This league is not viable in my opinion and coaches like Jones are being punished as a victim of circumstance and that circumstance is a shoddy conference.

This. We have several streaky shooters, but seriously need a consistent scorer and 3 point shooter.

We have a shooter on the bench, Huett Jr. He's a freshman and Jones won't play anybody who isn't Defense first. That's been our biggest problem since the BT era. Always tough on D, offense always sketchy.

Your offense was not sketchy when you had Trey Freeman lighting us up for 40 few seasons ago...

It was though. Then Freeman was ALL we had. He went cold several times and our offense was even more anemic than it is currently. If we had Freeman on this team, forget about it. But we don't have that "clutch" shooter. We have a very opportunistic offense this year. Points off turnovers is what kept us in the game last night. And a good inside presence. Perimeter shooting is the problem.

My question for MTSU fans, who is the grad transfer future CUSA player of the year you have in the pipeline for next season? Unreal to have 2 grad transfers back to back who were more less role players in the SEC who then turn into CUSA POYs....I mean Kermit has to keep this train rolling, I need a name for next season ha..

Yes, towards the end of our 17-19 wins every-single-year-streak, most of the fanbase was fed up. He went out and got a few JUCO transfers and took us to the NIT the next year, beating Tennessee and starting the run that we're still on to this day. His coaching style and demeanor changed a bit as well - less harsh on pulling players out of the game after a bad play, etc.

Well, our first C-USA POY was homegrown, but I get your point. I know they are surveying the field looking to identify players that are planning to transfer next year but I haven't heard any specific names yet. But I do believe one scholarship is expected to be allocated for that purpose. We also have a kid that transferred from Rio Grande Valley sitting out this year due to transfer rules who will be eligible next year. He was the WAC freshman of the year and averaged 17 pts a game. He also led the league in three pointers ranking 12th nationally last year. He will likely fill the spot vacated by Giddy's graduation.

That's the question many of us are struggling with. He haa landed two nice recruiting classes (on paper). He really struggling recruiting prior to that, and it's showing now in our lack of depth.

I believe that 7 years is the longest that we've ever gone without an NCAA Tournament appearance. We'll tie that this season.

Yeah. I am very patient in general. I would even say he should be on the hot seat but you won't fire a coach in yr 6 playing games for 1st place with huge crowds at home. But at the same time no big wins. But looking at last class and 2018 is the 61st rated class and #2 in cusa. Its like...grrr I wanna say cut ties but that's not looking bad. Glad I don't have to make that call.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

I have waited two days to post. Good game, Raiders -- but damn, you guys are easy to strongly dislike. I know. This too shall pass -- but when, Lord, when!

OK. I feel better.

Sigh...
