To the tune of 55-75, no less.
LATech joins a Group of Five sitting 3 games back of 8-1 WKU & UAB. (joining UTEP, Charlotte, USM, MTSU). FAU’s still just a half game behind that grouping battling for the last top four bye spot.
Rice is a full game back of first. maybe we can get WKU to underestimate us based on last night’s result. We did finally get Olivia Ogwumike back so at least we’ll be full strength Saturday. We’ll need to be firing on all cylinders to have a chance, even at home.

I was hopeful for a win but I'd lie if I thought it'd be by more than 5.

C-USA WBB: The Race for the #1 Seed in Frisco
We have been streak-y all year but usually snap out of the cold spells and make up for it. We played early in the year with a very short bench so that affected our style of play a bit, too. Who knows, maybe Saturday will make up for yesterday 03-wink

Rice 73 WKU 58, Final. Rice remains unbeaten at home. Next up @ UAB with first place on the line (again). Not surprised at the win but surprised we were able to pull away late.

C-USA WBB: The Race for the #1 Seed in Frisco
UAB turned away Rice’s attempt at the back-to-back first place sweep. Blazers now have inside track on top seed. Rice at 3 travels to 5. MTSU this afternoon (2pm CT, ESPN3) for a huge battle for a first round bye. Owls could get serious breathing room with a win. MTSU stays firmly in the mix if they win. Charlottes sitting in 4th right now and LATech is still in reach at 6th. But the top seed is now pretty much a 2-Team affair.
UAB is hosting Charlotte this afternoon (also at 2CT) in another big one.

This is getting interesting. We did not play our best ball today. Actually, MT played some really solid defense for 40 minutes. Will be interesting to see who comes away with the top four seeds.

Defense is the specialty for MT. Offense looks like a middle school team at times but tonight it was actually the best it's been in a while, flow-wise. Top 4 seeds will be a battle!

Even after losing to Charlotte, UAB still “controls their destiny” and has tiebreaker advantage over 1st place WKU.

The servant leader cannot exit stage left quickly enough.

Losing Johnson in our first game (back at half speed now) and then our PG Kyla Allison for the year (should be redshirted) really hurt. We've never had any flow offensively since we have had to play a point guard who really isn't a D1 player - do have a true PG coming in next year who will be more like Ty Petty. Anna Jones the freshman guard has picked up the slack and will be a huge scorer on down the road for us. Insell hasn't wanted to play our other freshmen that much -- have a post who could do great things inside, 6'5" Jadona Davis, but she has been benched a lot this year in favor of seniors Reuter and Lyon who are hit and miss at best. Davis will be very good and if I had to guess may be a starter next year, or Jordan Majors who is also coming off the bench but should play a lot more. Insell has not done a good job managing the bench this year; he keeps trying to play our slowest players tho they have more experience, and it bites us in the rear in a lot of games -- like what happened in MT vs WKU this week.

Every team had better hold onto their tall girls.

Rice will make you pay in years to come. McDonald's All-American 6-9 Nancy Mulkey transfer from Oklahoma. Has 3 years to play.

Still haven’t given up on this year, we have shown flashes and could still peak for the tourney... but next year between Mulkey plus a couple of highly touted freshmen coming in... well, we might at least be picked the preseason favorites.

RE: C-USA WBB: The Race for the #1 Seed in Frisco
The race for the top seed is interesting, but the race for the last bye could be pretty good as well.

WKU, UAB and Rice are pretty obviously the top three seeds (Rice is technically part of a four-team clump with eight conference wins but they should be favored in all of their final four games). Charlotte is 8-4, Middle Tennessee is 8-5 and Louisiana Tech is 8-6. So that's three teams for the No. 4 seed. Obviously Charlotte has the advantage of two games in hand.

But ODU, a month removed from a 2-16 start, has won six of its last nine games and are 6-7 in CUSA now. It would take a bunch of things to go their way (like everyone above them losing a bunch), but if they won out, they could find themselves in the mix, depending on what those eight-win teams do (it helps that they play Charlotte and Middle Tennessee).

North Texas, Southern Miss and UTEP can still get to 9-7 with four straight wins to finish the season, but they all have a game against WKU or UAB, so their path is pretty difficult. And if two teams in that eight-win clump win twice, it'd be for naught, at least as far as the bye goes.

Still, a touch of intrigue in the closing stretch.

Yeah, I think 10 wins or more will be needed to get the bye. 9-7 almost certainly won’t cut it.

dont count on her. Always suspected she would have a hard time with INsell or any coach with discipline. Already rumblings from her family about her coming back to a juco

Actually in the coaches show today Insell mentioned that her attitude has been the best of the year recently and he expects her to play a big role very soon. Hopefully she does stick around.

UAB moves back into the #1 seed slot with a 65-58 victory over MTSU this afternoon.
