Rumors on realignment board about lasalle doing a study regarding leaving a10 for the maac, of which they were once members years ago.

Could have implications for the caa.

Uncw could be a prime candidate as a replacement.

A10 not a fit for us. LaSalle basketball alum sits next to me and says he had not heard anything official about the study, but it has been talked about for last 2-3 years. A couple of olympic sports went back to MAAC this year as associate members, as well.

Given where LaSalle sits in Philly hoops pecking order, and given their relatively low probability of moving that (permanently), this move makes a ton of sense.

Man, if we were to see VCU, ODU, Richmond, George Mason and UNCW defect from the CAA for greener pastures, oh my oh my oh my.

Sur would be interested to see the spin doctors perform that surgery.

Jeff Bourne-
"Radford, welcome to the CAA. President Alger, myself and the CAA commissioner have spent weeks working together on this monumental decision. Our student athletes will now have the opportunity to engage in excellence in Southwestern Virginia on a regular basis."

If we can't win in basketball in the CAA, why on earth would we want to move UP to the A10?

why would we want to move our basketball program; we just need to wait for something better for all sports

There are very few, if any, schools in a league only for basketball. Much more likely for that to happen with football.

Point being, any move to the A10 would be an "all-sports" move except for those sports not sponsored by the league.

Much better TV exposure
Much better attended games
Much more attractive conference schools.
Great basketball history and success. 10 of the 14 current schools have actually made an Elite 8 round at some point. Current CAA membership doesn't even one school with a Sweet 16 appearance.

Gotta move away from the kiddie table sometime. Though it would be more of a challenge, it's a challenge we should accept. If Rowe is as good a recruiter as we hope he is, his sales pitch will be made easier by playing in a higher profile conference. The Olympic sports and women's basketball are all a wash anyway. I don't believe any athlete is coming to JMU (in the minor sports) because of our conference foes. Our teams that have achieved success have done it w/ OOC scheduling.

We're already an outlier in the CAA, wouldn't be any more so in the A10. Since we're likely CAA4life anyway, park the football in CAA Football and move everything else.

Is LaSalle even really considering leaving- Who knows. Would our admin consider such a move- I have my doubts. Would the A10 even want us- Maybe not. But I think it's worth considering , especially if we are committed to FCS football.

You are not allowed to be in a league for hoops only.

Football is the only exception to that rule.

You take hoops to a league, all other Olympic sports must go with it if that league sponsors the sport.

If JMU is stuck in FCS football, JMU would have to be crazy not to pursue all sports A-10. Then again, the A-10 is not the CAA so all bets off.

RE: OT: lasalle
LaSalle joining the A-10 back in the 90's was a huge mistake. They had that one lightning in a bottle year when they went to the Sweet 16 with a bunch of transfers, but other than that it's been a disaster for them. They play in an old, ugly, renovated gym that makes the DAC look gorgeous. And when you're the least popular of 3 teams from the same city in the same conference, it's really tough to recruit. That school basically dominated the MAAC as a mid-major in the early 90's. They moved to a slightly better Midwest Conference in the mid-90's, which turned out to be a failure of a conference. Then they were stuck and their Big Five buddies got them into the A10, but it hasn't worked out for them either. They probably should have moved to the CAA in the first place, before Drexel joined.

UNCW baseball would take a big hit with a move to the A10. They also would leave COC behind too.

Davidson draws a lot of students from the Northeast so I understood why they went plus the So Con just wasn’t a good fit for them. UNCW would feel like a fish out of the water in the A10.

I see Hofstra or Northeastern as a better add for the A10. UNCW doesn’t bring a decent market to the A10. Not sure they bring anything really.

This is the same deal/offer JMU had and could have moved with Richmond to the A-10 back in the day for all-sports and leave football in the CAA. If this is actually offered again it is a no-brainer decision. The non-football sports would be fine in the A-10 and if it is an sport that the A-10 does not offer, JMU should be able to find a home.....no different than Women's Indoor Track not being official CAA sport so just compete in the ECAC Championships.

I doubt JMU will ever make a conference move, even a move that keeps JMU in the fcs ranks forever. The admin does not have the desire and JMU's great fan base is a 25K enabler.

Why not? We turned it down the first time when our basketball program was in a much stronger position with Lefty, the convo was often sold out, and football was a non-factor. Basketball drove the bus when we said no, so why would they go when Football is much bigger?

If anything, seems less likely we would move now. If we did, would create additional headaches (exit fees, etc) for moving to MAC, CUSA, or even a magical AAC invite. Football only offers are extremely unlikely. A10 is why UMass was booted from MAC, and forced to go FBS Indy.

would not be surprised if we were approached by the A10.

I am sure Mason, Richmond & VCU would love to be reunited with the Dukes: and we are another bus able school for GW & Davidson St. Joes and Duquesne (Dukes vs. Dukes)

sure, hoops is in a tough way right now, but you need to look LT
