He’s the #1 grad transfer prospect this year and will start at LT for a top program in the country. Sure, I wish we were going to be decent this year and could convince him to stay but I don’t fault him for wanting to play in a real college football environment. He accomplished the reason to attend Rice, he graduated with a Math Econ degree which is probably something most people on this board couldn’t do. If he wanted to quit football tomorrow he could get a 6 figure starting salary no problem.

I get that. But to be as smart as he is you would think that he wouldn't be so arrogantly condescending toward the place that he is now an alum. It's one thing to think it. It's another to come out and say it - especially the way he said it. And like one poster wrote above when he played the elite DE's in the league he didn't exactly have a good showing.

I agree.

If I am one of his former teammates, I would take that as a slap in the face.

Lol you’re kidding right? If you think you have any players that wouldn’t transfer out to start at UT, Michigan or Auburn you’re delusional. Most of our guys come to get a degree and he did that. Now he can go play his year of semi-pro before he tries the NFL. He’s in the Rice tv commercial and has complimented Rice, Bailiff and now Bloomgren in multiple articles.

No, I'm not kidding and I don't use "lol".

I'm sure there are players everywhere that would love to play on a team that could contend for a NC but just do it. No need to condescend your teammates and conference when doing so.

And if you don't think he was saying he's too good to be on that team and in this league then you are the one who is delusional.

RE: Calvin Anderson
Clearly, he is mainly saying he needs to play against better players than he finds in CUSA.

If he does well in this next year, he could bump his draft position up two or three rounds, maybe to the first round. Seems like a good decision to me.

Of course, if he doesn't do well, it could hurt his draft status. Always a chance of that, but the coaches at Michigan, Texas, Auburn, and a lot of other places don't think that will happen.

He came to Rice and took care of business, both on the field and in the classroom. Good for him. From a selfish POV, I would like him to stay. But he has what he came for, a Rice degree in something meaningful, and he has kept his end of the bargain, by giving us those four years. This year is optional.

We had an all-conference performer a few years back pass on his last year of eligibility because he graduated and got a tremendous job offer. Nobody at Rice thought he was making a mistake or being ungrateful when he took the offer. I see this the same.

If he can't make one of the two CUSA all conference teams then I guess CUSA has 26 other OL that could start for Michigan, Texas, Auburn? He made honorable mention like 17 other CUSA linemen.

Western put 4 OL in the NFL since 2015....hell one starter and he played TE and most likely another starter if not injured. If you got the talent the NFL will find you.

Lamp was selected in the second round, 38th overall. If he had taken his last year at Ohio State, is there any possibility he would have been taken higher? Or was 38th his maximum?

Everyone knows Rice isn’t playing for a national championship next year. The linemen in the big 10/SEC/big 12 are on average much better than CUSA. Not debatable at all. CUSA is a JV conference compared to them no matter what y’all think and you clearly just don’t want to read that in writing. He’s not condescending towards his teammates he’s stating a fact that his draft status will go up if he plays well on a high profile team. His teammates all agree with him I’m sure.

If he was leaving without a degree I’d say it’s stupid (like 4 of our 6 basketball transfers) but he’s not.

Yes, they will. It's just a question of what round they find you in.

And Rice has 8 current NFL players. I agree you can make it from anywhere but why would you choose to play in front of 20k with hardly any TV exposure when you can play in front of 100k against better competition on national TV? Easy choice when you’re just treating it as a NFL audition.

Vernon Butler from Tech was selected in the first round a couple years ago, if you have the natural talent and skills and display it at pro day, combine the scouts are going to find you at any FBS team. This isn’t the 1980’s
