Houston and Temple are solid teams. As has been discussed on this board, Temple has had a weird season.

Is it not possible that the teams are good AND WSU plays poorly? Is anyone on this board really going to say that WSU played well vs Houston and Temple? Give me a break. There are good reasons WSU was favored by 6,7 points in each game.

Is any WSU fan going to at least consider that maybe, even a slight maybe, Houston and Temple had something to do with WSU playing bad?

No?

Who needs to give whom a break again?

Umm sure. Of course the opposing team has something to do with it.

To the original poster, the Wichita crowd is a passionate bunch. This is good for the AAC, which does not have much steam on the hoops side. I have enjoyed their contributions to the board. They also have an inordinate amount of trolls per capita. I do not mind the trolls as much as others, but certain people may be offended.

Not true. Other than softer than historical defense, Wichita State played quite well at home against SMU. We may have lost that same game had we played it 10 times in a row (all things being equal including Shake Milton drinking his Gatorade from the Cup of Christ). Sometimes you're just going to lose.

But Houston and Temple were a totally different story.

We haven't just played poorly in the games we've lost, we've played poorly in some of the games we've won too. Defense has been off nearly the entire year. Remember all those 50 pt. halves we were giving up every game? Completely out of character for this team. Shocking actually.

Historically... we play defense similar to Cincy yet bring about 1.5x as much offense. That's the Shocker team you've been watching on television in March with your friends and neighbors while your own team relaxes in the minor tournaments or on the golf course. The team you've been watching this year is a distant cousin to those "Play Angry Kids" you had droned into your skull for over half a decade now.

We expected to come in here and rock this place into shape. We (I) apologize for letting you down.

All is not lost yet. We may still turn it around if the boys (and coaches) can have a coming to Jesus. I wonder if Marshall is losing his "us-against-them" mentality as his net worth continues to explode? How long can you continue to keep that attitude when you are sleeping on mattresses stuffed with cash, your city worships you, the entire media calls you one of the best coaches in the game, and all your players love you like a father?

The best part of Gregg Marshall is not his brain but his willingness to trade his soul for a win. His typical intensity level in games (and especially practices) is more than slightly out of balance when taking all things of life into perspective. But Shocker fans have enjoyed each and every second of his "lack of perspective".

and they still have to play @Cincy, @SMU, and Cincy at home...I see a 4th L heading WSU's way.

I see a 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th if we don't turn things around. I'm on record as predicting a .500 conference record over the remaining games at their current competency. All we have to do is play like we did against Houston and we're guaranteed 3 more losses. If we play like we did against Temple we'll have 4 more. I don't think we could get bad enough to lose 5 of our next 8 but I'd surely not want to be proven wrong.

For us to make the NCAA tournament we are going to have to play better and more consistent defense starting immediately.

I think WSU wins 2 of the 3...this league is simply stronger than many WSU fans want to give credit for.

Right there with you.

Next year it'll be better when they're below us in the standing like it normally is. Then they'll be calling us annoying. Ahhhh, life is so much better when you can gloat and Lord it over some poor shocker fan.

So you're expecting 3rd again?

We're only one place away from 3rd, and that's after losing a key big man right before the season and having one of our guys coming off a broken hand. Not too bad actually.

Tulsa would make a fine inverse barometer for measuring the strength of this league. As Tulsa approaches 3rd place, the AAC approaches the MVC.

If anyone should have realized by now that this isn't the MVC it's you.

Wichita's defense is not even close to Cincy's. And neither is its place in the AAC standings.

I suspect you are not alone in your sentiments. Much of AAC Nation was hoping that we would fall on our faces (including the AAC coaches who voted in direct opposition to the rest of the country).

Shocker fans might be getting the last laugh though as the preseason 2nd place prediction may end up woefully incorrect... 04-cheers

So the Shockers start to suck, the AAC then sucks, and AAC fans are happy? 04-cheers

This conference is weird.

Its not the WSU team people wanted to see fall a bit. It was you guys, some of the most annoying Shocker fans. You needed a bit of reality in the American and I think you are getting some. About time!
