RE: Thoughts?
400,000 watched at least part of this game.......you will not get those numbers on espnu or even espn2.

Below are TV ratings for 2015 on a couple Thursday nights and according to the article about the ODU VS Middle game...400,000 eyes watched it or parts of it. If someone wants to do the research I'm fairly sure 2016 numbers wouldn't be any better...2015 was the first thing I found

Wouldnt it be more up to the local TV to pick up the Stadium broadcast of the game than the Conference?

It's really hard to know what is best for us right now. Obviously it feels better to us as fans to be on a major network, but the numbers appear to show that Facebook can get more eyeballs than TV right now. 400k viewers aint happening for us on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

This may be a dumb question, the 405.1k views for the MT-ODU game, were those unique views? Or was it total views of people checking in and out of the game on FB?

RE: Thoughts?
That 400K number is bogus. Keep in mind this is facebook not how Neilsen does ratings so you have to take into account how the Internet is different than TV. On the internet a page view is not the same thing as watching the game. It's paramount on traditional TV to counting the game "as watched" as you channel surf and flip across a station on your way to somewhere else.

I have no doubt Stadium probably got 400K page views across their Facebook page during the time of the game, but that doesn't mean people were watching it. The stream actually tells you how many people are watching at any one time. The most I saw that actually streaming it live was close to 2,000 at one point. There is no way 400,000 streamed that game.

Lastly, Harry's column is dead on. His last two graphs could have been the lead...

Conference USA and Stadium officials are doing innovative things with Facebook broadcasts, and as they experiment, I’m sure they’ll get it right.

But Thursday night, they got it wrong.

.
Exactly what I was thinking how do you discern views with actually watching the game.
No doubt television viewing has evolved so much in the last decade. It can no longer defined as watching on the traditional television set so to speak. That considered it is imperative to have games on the traditional networks for more viewers to watch. CUSA is behind the leagues we should consider as equals.

RE: Thoughts?
I'm pretty sure that those 400k "views" are not 400k different IP addresses. I'm willing to bet it's 400k clicks/page-refreshes on the link/feed/stream. So if you had to hit refresh 5 times for whatever reason then that's 5 extra views. If you left Facebook and came back 5 different times on the same computer/IP address then that's 5 more views.

RE: Thoughts?
Today I got a response to an e-mail that I sent to the league office a few weeks ago regarding the poor availability of TV access to the conference Basketball and Football games. I have copied the response below for all to see. I would recommend that instead of beefing about the lack of decent TV coverage here on the forum that you take 5 minutes to send a cordial, direct, and factual e-mail about your own displeasure regarding the lack of coverage compared to other G5 conferences.

Personally I would like to see the conference develop it's own CUSA page on ROKU and the schools be obligated to cover their home events live. My second choice would be for the schools to reach an agreement to cover the home events and the league to have an agreement to get it on ESPN3.

Lastly I respect her for sending me an e-mail that addressed my concerns. I'm hoping that many others on here will follow suit. Remember that the squeaking wheel is the one that gets the grease.

E-MAIL RESPONSE

*****,

Hello and how are you? Your emails below have made their way to me and I wanted to be responsive to you. I do apologize for the delay. We certainly agree with your frustrations and want to get as many of our schools’ events covered by our current multimedia partners as well as future partners. We currently offer fans a mix between linear TV and digital for cord cutters. The smaller conferences who have not had linear TV options are ahead of us at producing their own content that is airing on digital providers like Roku and ESPN3. Those schools have been forced to produce their own content. Getting all of our C-USA schools’ video production capabilities ESPN3 compliant is a priority for Conference USA. We want all of our schools to be able to produce events at the highest level.

Our current partner Stadium just became available on Roku. We have been working for months with our web provider to get CUSA.tv on Roku. Roku has changed their terms and this has caused us problems as CUSA.tv is currently a subscription product and we don’t want fans to have to buy multiple subscriptions. We have had initial conversations with our members about offering CUSA.tv content for free. Ultimately it is their decision since it is their revenue stream. Either way, getting our content on Roku is a priority and we hope to offer this option to fans when football starts next fall.

We want to maximize visibility and make it as easy as possible for fans like you to watch games when you can’t be there in person. Thank you very much for your support of ODU Athletics. Take care!

RE: Thoughts?
Stadium is better than ESPN2, honestly.

Why not let schools try something like Stadium does, and have all CUSA games not tied to ESPN/CBS/Fox broadcast from a social media based page? Or allow the schools to individually stream their games and sell their own ad space to get a little more money?

That's exactly what happens when you hire a career academic administrator to run the league. We should have hired a business person with real world experience, like a former TV network executive etc.

RE: Thoughts?
We have had this TV contract for two years. Zero excuse for schools not being up to production standards by now. Any school who isn't up to standards should have their TV revenue withheld completely.

WKU is lucky that we have such an experienced and well funded production crew. Hilltopper Sports Satellite Network drove their van all the way to San Antonio Texas for the game today so it would be on TV somewhere. Apparently UTSA couldn't produce the game themselves. PATHETIC

RE: Thoughts?
Here's a question for our bone-headed conference leadership: why is CUSA making media deals (ones that require the schools to essentially produce the content themselves) when most of the schools AREN'T even up to production standard????

If I'm CUSA commish and I'm making these types of deals then PRIOR to signing the dotted line I'm making damn sure EVERYONE has the telecom/AV/manpower resources to meet production standard. Otherwise it's a terrible deal.

If schools can't meet production standards then we need to seriously think about whether or not said schools belong in our conference.

And it was another nail biter.

About the article. It really is madining at times the decisions thst are made or not made, regardless of who's team it is, when there is a perfect opportunity to promote the league. As someone said earlier. Lifetime academics with no real experience totally out of touch.

As to the fb feed itself. I thought it was great. Quality feed. Kinda corny at times with the dogs but it was fun. It it was engaging, and it really was about as interactive as you could hope for.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.
