66th Beanpot
Today is the annual Beanpot tournament between the 4 Boston area schools in hockey at Boston Garden.
NU takes on BC at 5pm follwed by BU and Harvard at 8:30 on NESN.

The winners meet next Monday for the championship at 8:30 after the consolation game at 5.
It’s the old college hockey tournament in the country.

Some tidbits ...

NU comes into the tourney as the only one ranked, which is the first time that’s happened.

NU hasn’t won the freakin’ Beanpot since my freshman year in 1988! Yep, 1988.

NU and Harvard have NEVER played in the championship game!

BU has won the most championships, followed by BC.

Harvard won it last year for the 1st time since 1993.

NU has only won 4 titles and they all came in the 80’s. The 4 is the lowest amount won.

To be honest, I have no taste for the Beanpot. I mean I’ll still watch when I get home from work tomorrow and follow the scores. If we win the title I’ll be happy of course.

But I want to win the HE championship again and make it to the Frozen Four.

We don’t need the Beanpot for recruiting purposes, we’re getting top flight recruits too with BC and BU.

RE: 66th Beanpot
I've never experienced an NU Beanpot win, and I still have a taste for this gut-punch tournament, even though I meet the same defeat every year. This tournament meant a lot more to me when I was able to go in person every year, but I live too far away now for me to make last minute plans to go should we win tonight.

Bill Simmons once wrote an article about leaving the stadium as quickly as possible when the Pats lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl one year. Well NU students have that mastered! They get our practice every year, getting out of there as fast as possible, walking down the steps of the Garden and finding an Orange or Green Line train by the time the trophy gets presented. I respect the tournament but I made a rule for myself freshman year that I wouldn't watch another team celebrate until NU won their own. Over 10 years later and joke's on me I guess.

NU has a good team this year. Our aspiration should really be HE and the NCAA's. Our Beanpot performance directly affects our NCAA chances, so do well now helps our future. But man, I'd really love to see a Beanpot title. Above anything, I think this tournament is a big key for our attendance issues. Do well and we'll se an uptick in attendance, which should especially help in the HE playoffs if we end up in the top 4 (which we should barring disaster).

NU’s top line carries the Huskies to a 3-0 semi-final win over BC.

NU will either face BU or Harvard in next Monday’s title game at the Garden.

Dylan Sikura (14), Nolan Stevens (18) and Adam Gaudette (20) scored for NU.

Freshman Cayden Primeau made 37 saves and became the 4th Husky goalie to record a shut in the Beanpot.

If you were to tell me that NU would beat BC before the game started, this is exactly how I thought it would happen. Top line gets the goals, Primeau plays great, power play goal sets the tone, and we weather the storms that bc brought.

We get bu in the final. I wouldn't have it any other way!

Was really hoping for a NU-Harvard final for hell to freeze over!

NU fans filled one end of the upper level at the Garden.

I saw a lot of the third period and both ot's. BU may be young but they are fast and really good stick handlers and passers. It seemed like Harvard could never get out of their end and eventually BU won. Watching how BU played I was hoping we'd be playing Harvard.

Oh it’s a beautiful thing!!

Guys like me and NUGuy have waited far too long for this! Lot of heartbreaking losses since ‘88.

We did it the right way, beat BC and BU to win it!!

Did anybody keep track of how many times the announcers said "it's been thirty years since NU won the beanpot?"

That’s OK. We don’t have to hear it anymore after last night!

Yeah. I know. I just thought it was disrespectful and lazy announcing, too. One time or even twice is fine. After all it is accurate. I guess that's just me. I know that my wife was getting annoyed with me when I kept pointing it out.
