Who says....
....that WV doesn't have D1 caliber athletes in major college sports?

John Elmore, CJ Burks, Jarrod West, Rondale Watson, Ot Elmore, plus three more on Marshall's roster are from WV. For them to have this level of success in D1 basketball is unheard of.

Proud of all of my home state athletes. GO HERD!

You should be very proud.

But I'm not sure why you phrased this as you did. Perhaps I missed it, but I don't recall anyone ever stating anything that was anywhere close to that sentiment on this forum.

It wasn't what anyone on this board said. It's what's been said by some that I've heard on the radio and some coaches...and it's evidenced by the lack of D1 recruits in WV... several of our players (IIRC) were not highly recruited at all.

RE: Who says....
Who said West Virginia doesn't have D1-caliber athletes in major sports?

Btw, just for future reference, don't follow up a statement about the quality of your athletes with "For them to have this level of success in D1 basketball is unheard of", because it actually kinda contradicts your point about the quality of athletes in West Virginia if, as you say, it's a rarity for such success to manifest itself.

Now get into that Sweet 16! 04-rock

You don't see the real big guys in the state often. Although Marshall has offered Chapmanville's 6'8 PF Obinna Anochili-Killen. He is only a Soph now.

What WV has plenty of is PGs and SGs. Far to long these kids were overlooked and had to go play DII or NAIA. One that should have played at Marshall all 4 years is Stevie Browning but he wasn't even looked at by Tom Herrion. Not a WV kid but another guy that should have played at Marshall and wanted to play at Marshall is Justin Johnson. Johnson was just 35 miles down the road in Hazzard KY and grew up watching Marshall. Again Herrion knew about Johnson but was quoted as saying Johnson would never start at the DI level.

Better stated than my original post. Well done.

And now Obinna Anochili-Killen is a AA State Champion. Chapmanville just beat Fairmont Sr to take home the AA State Title 69-60 a few mins ago.

D'Antoni is going to own this state and whats better is, all those WVU flags will start dropping and Marshall flags going up as we keep recruiting local and people know and support these kids.

Well Huggy is no stranger to the older members of this league. If i were a parent in that area and my kids had a choice between your guy and that ARSEhat. Well the choice is clear.

RE: Who says....
We lose Ot Elmore as a state kid after this year but gain 2 more.

Jeremy Dillon (6'4 185# SG, Mingo Central HS, Williamson WV)
Levi Cook (6'10 285# C, Huntington Prep, Arnett WV -- TR DePaul, Cook will be a RS Soph)

Dillon was a 2 sport athlete in HS and it was speculated that he might try and play football but he signed on the dotted line in Nov to play basketball for Marshall.

A lot of Marshall supporters thought Dan was crazy. Even this year before the season started I seen a post on a Marshall message board that read something like this:

Quote:Dan D'Antoni will never go any further than 17-20 wins the way he recruits. You can't have a bunch of WVIAC All Stars (referring to WV Kids) and expect to win against good DI teams.

The WVIAC is the now defunct DII conference now known as the MEC (Mountain East Conference) that most all of the small college schools in WV are in.
