National Signing Day 2018, Part II ...
Part II, because of the early signing day back in December.

But there are some top recruits still other there.

Biggest news so far? Alabama flipped Patrick Surtain Jr. a 5-star CB, who was expected to sign with LSU.

It might not be big news for anyone else, but Georgia Southern just signed the highest rated class in the Sun Belt Conference despite going 2-10 this past season. Our highest rated recruit is 4-star OLB Quin Williams who is the 20th ranked OLB in the nation according to ESPN.

It says something about the program. Non-power schools like Boise St must maintain top-level records to continue getting good recruits. If Boise St had a streak of 2 or 3 seasons with losing records, we would quickly fall into a pit that is very difficult to escape.

It is big news. Georgia Southern is on the rise, and nabbing a 4* guy is quite a coup. Believe me, USF doesn't have many (any) of those wandering our practice fields. Well done. 04-cheers

Totally false. USF routinely has one of the 3 top so called G5 recruiting classes each and every year. This year only behind Cincinnati and Boise St. USF also routinely signs several 4 star recruits each and every year. So yes, there are 4 star guys wandering practice field every year. You, apparently, don't follow recruiting that closely.

For example here are some recent 4 star guys USF has signed in the past 5-6 years: Jordan Cronkrite (transfer), Craig Watts, Darnell Salomon, Jimmy Bayes, D'Ernest Johnson, Lamar Robbins, Derrick Calloway, Sean Price, D'Vario Montgomery, Quinton Flowers, Kevaughn Dingle, Tramel Ivy, Josh Dunn, Eric Mayes, Ryeshene Bronson, Benjamin Knox, Marlon Mack, Vincent Jackson, Deadrin Senat, Chris Bivins, James Hamilton, and from this year Zion Roland.

Admittedly, many of those did not pan out, some not even making it to campus, but by my count, that is 22 4 star recruits USF has signed since 2012. One year USF signed SIX four star recruits according to ESPN (see link below).

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/footb...class/2014

All of the above names are 4 star recruits by either Rivals, 247, or ESPN.

That's an average of about 3 a year.

You couldn't be more off in your assessment.

Cincinnati flipped a 4* RB who had been committed to Oklahoma. He decommitted last week, made an official visit to Ohio State, and then picked Cincinnati over Ohio State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Texas, and USC (among others).

We also got last-minute 4* TE/DE who had offers from a lot of top schools (including Notre Dame and Ohio State), and had made official visits to Louisville, Kentucky, and Texas A&M.

Both of these new guys are from the greater Dayton area.

Yes, I'm not sure I've ever seen a class with eight 5* guys. Off the charts.

Out of about 30 in the country. Clemson had 5. That's nearly half in that short stretch between Athens and Clemson.

Last I checked 247, only 10 schools had signed a 5 star. USC had 4, Ohio ST and Penn St. 3, Texas and Alabama 2 and OU, Miami and LSU 1 each.

I saw that, to my chagrin, LOL.

Before you nabbed those 4* guys, USF had the top-rated class among G5 schools in basically all of the rating services. But after those closing coups, you Bearcats leapt over us.

E.g., ESPN has Cincy with the #41 class, USF has the #55 class. Next is UCF at #70.

good job Tulane..In spite of coaching change we are in at 69. We had a smallish class, but a bunch of transfers coming in that don't show up in ratings.

Clemson's recruiting has gone through the roof the last couple years. Guess recruits are impressed by their playoff success, as they should be.

Clemson is now in that rarified Alabama/Ohio State air where they routinely turn down 3-star guys. Other big schools like Notre Dame and Michigan have had to load up on 3-star guys recently, making their classes seem more impressive than they are. The recruiting services use a cumulative approach, so if school A signs four 3-star guys and school B signs two 5-star guys, it's 12 stars to 10 total so A is ranked higher.

But in truth, B has clearly recruited better.

RE: National Signing Day 2018, Part II ...
The last couple of recruiting cycles have been tough on Ole Miss, which happens when your program is sanctioned and then has it's coach fired in disgrace. The 2016 class had three five stars and 12 four stars, forming the core of the fifth ranked class of the year. Now several of those top players have transferred while Matt Luke tries to rebuild confidence in the program among fans, alumni and parents in recruits' living rooms. Luke is a former player at Ole Miss and has a spotless reputation, so there is hope. This year's class did have three four stars, including Matt Carrol, a former five star Army All-American quarterback from California who was rated the No. 4 QB in the nation. They have signed more JUCO players in the last two recruiting seasons, having signed four or five JUCO All-Americans this year. The Rebels ended up with the No. 31 class, but in the SEC, that's only good enough for 10th in the conference. They are going to have a lot of work to do over the next year or so to fill in around Carrol and move back into the top half of the SEC in recruiting.
