During that time, Rice missed six 3-point shots, a lay up, made four free throws and one layup while turning the ball over five times and allowing MTSU to score 24 points. Those 420 seconds essentially ended the Owls chance to even compete in the game during the second half.
This seems like a similar pattern in many of the games this year where the last few minutes of the first half doom the Owls to defeat. Someone on the court has to take over and stop the bleeding when this happens. At this point no player seems capable to play this role for the Owls.
It seems to me that this has been a persistent problem across each of the last four coaching regimes. Since the advent of GameTracker, it seems like Rice Basketball has been the only team to consistently demonstrate that they know what a step function is and looks like. The other teams seem remarkably un-creative, rarely demonstrating that they know how to do anything but draw straight lines.
Perhaps that's just my apophenia speaking...
I would guess that we lead the NCAA in use of the word "apophenia" on sports message boards.

That's sad, because it's probably the most underused word in all of sports, yet its evidence is ubiquitous.
