Students were on break again. Shu had plans for a big turnout and then found out about the break.

Spring break? Seems really early.

That’s what the academic calendar says.

Thanks for the link. The calendar shows Spring Recess 8th & 9th. Spring Break is mid-March for a full week.

Spring Recess must be a new concept. Back in the dark ages, we only had Spring Break which typically was the last half week of Feb. and 1st half week of March, well before most other Texas schools.

Back in the day Easter hadn’t been invented yet. That was before higher education and before the buckyball.

Back in the day? We didn’t have a day. We had to turn the Earth around by hand before and after school. Uphill. Both ways. In the snow.

I guess that would be before 33 A.D.

Yeah, I read about that in Genesis. Majored in flint-chipping, did ya?

Not kidding here. I had a two digit (and one letter) student ID number.

For example, A-14

I don’t often remember things, but when I do, I don’t remember Spring Break at Rice. Circa 1968-1972.
Stay forgetful my friends.

In 63-67, we had a break for Christmas and a break for Easter. I always procrastinated writing papers until the break, then merrily ignored them during break, returning to rice with nothing done and a short time to get there. The current schedule may have worked better for me, but I probably would still procrastinate. Just my nature.

I always tell my kids that when I started at UCLA in the fall of 1981, we were still signing up for classes the old fashioned way on paper and sign-in sheets. Everything didn't get computerized until the next year or two. And that my grade school days started before calculators - we were still using an abacus.

And I'm not as old as some of you...........yet.

RPI is up to 96 after our first quality win of the season (Western Kentucky is now #51). A win at UAB (RPI of 81) would even shoot us up higher. Unfortunately the last four games after UAB won't help the RPI at all.

I've heard we are likely going to bid on hosting an NIT game if we don't make the NCAA's. Hopefully we also talk to the NIT about being in the preseason NIT field for next year as it's pretty important we upgrade our 2018 NC schedule.

Not too worried about RPI as I think with our two road conference losses we’re safely out of the running for at-large consideration.

I am very excited about the possibility of snagging a road win and taking the inside track for the one-seed for the CUSA tourney. Much like the men’s side, the one-Seed will be a big advantage with a clear path to the finals while avoiding the other top two along the way.

Somewhat overshadowed by the big win, Olivia shook off some of the rust yesterday, playing quality minuites and scoring 8 points on 4-6 shooting. Still not a rebounding force, but that should come as she gets more comfortable again.
