Yep. I guess we will see if it effects Coach Kimble. I doubt that it will, but it is worth monitoring.

I follow the Big South a little since I go to some of the Winthrop games and all of the Tribe and Dukes games played down this way against Big South teams. I know the Big South has traditionally been on the bottom wrung of DI hoops, but CUSA stinks as well.

I guess MTSU can write a bigger check and after being at UNCA since 2001, Mcdevitt certainly should understand the limitations of UNCA, but I still wonder about some of these "step up" switches coaches make.

Asheville is one of my favorite places in the world, right up there with Charleston and UNCA did just build a new gym a few years about 6 or 7 years ago.

MTSU must have a basketball budget, I know most Big South teams don't really have one. Maybe Mufreesboro is really nice too, don't know, never been there.

That's a great thought because W&M has always found a way to get great coaches who aren't in the mold of "it is just business", and they stay, and their longevity creates stable and successful programs at W&M.

What should disturb more is that a school offered 2mill to a basketball coach and charter flights to it's team when their president is paid $380,000.

College athletics have been totally out of whack for a long time.

They've been out of whack since colleges figured out that sports could pay for not only themselves, but fund the college in general. They will continue to be out of whack until something changes.

Word is that Tubby Smith is at High Point today finalizing negotiations to become the next coach at his alma mater. Since we did not play them the prior year, have to assume we have a return home game coming this season. Will make for an interesting game at Kaplan next fall, especially if, for once, we have a home game opening weekend.

A lot of it simply has to do with the fact that they wanted to be sure to get paid in some form when Grant is hired away. They know he is going to be hired away, they just want a finder's fee. They got an extension done so his buyout gets them a little something when it happens. They don't expect that he'll be there for that extension.

Looks like High Point will announce Tubby as new HC at Tuesday press conference. Again, assume we will see them with a return visit to Kap next fall.

https://www.durhamregion.com/sports-stor...oop-coach/

Think I previously read that Memphis was on the hook for $9mil for firing him, unless he took a HC job somewhere else. If that is true, kudos to him for following his heart rather than the money.

The income from a new job will usually just offset the amount being paid, not wipe it out. It actually allows a coach to work for less and still have the income from the previous school.

Saw where Texas-Arlington let go of HC Scott Cross because the AD thought they hadn't performed on the court to the level he wanted. Cross spent the last 23 years there as a player, asst, then HC. Won 72 games in the last 3 seasons. Won the SunBelt last year and made it to this year's championship. Won at Texas, Ohio State, St. Mary's, BYU twice. No indication of any other underlying issue, other than the AD wanted more. Talk about a messed up adminstration. Would hope Cross is scooped up by a grateful program somewhere, and the whole returning roster follows him out the door.

Coach Kimble is interviewing for the UNC-Asheville job this week per @CoachingChanges on twitter.

“UNC Asheville JUICE

UNC Asheville on campus interviews this Wed-Sat. Brett Carey, Mark Vanderslice (USC Aiken), Kotie Kimble (W&M), & Buzz Peterson who is trying to keep this quiet in case it doesn’t happen..”

Good luck to Coach Kimble. That will be a nice promotion if he gets the gig. My guess is that Brett Carey is the front runner.

Yup - unfortunate for us if he gets it, but well deserved. We're really lucky to have had the stability we've had since Christian left in our assistants. We had to expect one of these guys to go before too long.

Congrats to David Cox!!! The overall W&M Coaching Tree through either direct playing connections at W&M or playing for Shaver, or coaching with Shaver continues to grow which is a great thing.

“Rhode Island will hire David Cox as its next head basketball coach, per a source. Official announcement expected soon.” - per Jon Rothstein on Twitter

Oh, I know ... wasn’t trying to say he was connected to Shaver but rather the number of coaches now with a connection to W&M either through their time playing at W&M or playing for Shaver at HS/WM (Ryan Odom, etc ...) or coaching with Shaver at W&M (J Christian, Dee Vick, etc) is growing pretty quickly.

Sorry for any confusion.

David got the job after their President of URI said No Way to Pitino, who, supposedly had agreed, in principle, to take the job.
