Scathing article in Memphis paper that noted a pregame fight between 2 players and how a former Memphis Great that was inducted into their Wall of Fame (Anderson) at halftime, when asked if Tubby Smith was the right man for the job, he said No....and Tubby Smith basically agreed with him in post-game comments.

It sounds like Tubby wants to be fired and if he is, Memphis will owe him $9.75 Million ($3.25 Million for next 3 years).

Vultures have been circling for a good while now. Antonio Anderson's statement was before the UCF game. Tubby's payout is over a 6 yr. period, not all at once.

I've always thought that he'd be back next year.barring a complete collapse this season, but Memphis has now lost 5 of its last 6 so that collapse may well be happening. For the first time I'm now thinking it's conceivable he may go in a negotiated buyout. I say negotiated because Tubby sounds like he's as miserable at Memphis as the fans are with him.

That might be our only saving grace. He gets $1.5M for 6 years and a new coach gets $1-1.5M on a 5 year deal. The money is there if they want it to be there. The spike in donations and season ticket sales alone would cover the difference and then some.

Gary Parrish speculated that Penny Hardaway would do it for $1.5MM and bring along a couple of top 100 recruits. That would seem to be a no-brainer.

Probably more than a couple:
James Wiseman (#1 in 2019)
Chandler Lawson (#49 in 2019)
Malcolm Dandridge (#79 in 2019)

That's his starting front line on the high school team he coaches now & that would just be getting the party started. He'd get players from around the country in addition to keeping the best of the best from Memphis. Looking back, he probably should've been hired 2 years ago and we wouldn't be in the hopeless mess we are in now.

Memphis sure seems to like short cuts. Sleazy coaches and their hook ups like World Wide Wes that everyone knew would get them put on probation, hiring handlers and relatives of recruits, and now wanting to hire a guy whose coaching resume is a HS or AAU coach so that he can bring his players in. What could go wrong? You guys will end up being known as University 10 in an Indictment in no time.

In fairness, at least we actually have something to back it up...

Being Top 20 in the country isn't backing it up?

Tough crowd.

I had assumed he was talking about the pre-season chest beating.

Any program that loses 4 straight to UCF in basketball has hit rock bottom. There is a reason the vultures are circling.

Don't care what they do or who they hire as long as we win.

That mentality got you a vacated season not too long ago.

It’s like I’ve told SMU fans...you hire a guy like Larry Brown because all you want is to win when you know what else that can bring, don’t complain when it happens.

I complain when we don't win. NCAA vacating seasons might be the silliest stupidest thing ever. I'll take our 2008 "vacated" season all day, every day over anything that any AAC not named UConn has done in the last 40 years.

Not one bit. Enjoyed every second of the ride. Couldn't care less what some silly NCAA record book says.

Okeydoke. You don’t care about NCAA violations. Duly noted.

Every school cheats to some degree. Like I said, I'll take our last 35-40 years of basketball (NCAA penalties and all) over any AAC school not named UConn in that same time.

No...as UCF has turned into a pretty good hoop program over the last 2 years.

UCF is now 17-13 in conf play over the last 2 seasons, even with all of their injuries, lost scholarships (transfer redshirts, etc...).

Now if you would have replaced UCF with say usf or ECU...then yes, that would mean Memphis would mean the Tigers have hit rock bottom. (Memphis has already lost to ECU once this year).

Just let them be bitter. We've beat them 11 times in a row in football. this was all they had over us

There is cheating and there is University 6 level cheating. Go somewhere in the middle. Schools like wku has moved up the cheating charts. Guess it is a Kentucky basketball thing.

Umm who are these national recruits Penny Hardaway will bring lol? He's a high school coach who had a cup of coffee in the NBA before any of these recruits were born. Don't get me wrong he was a good player (with Shaq) and lil penny was awesome. But none of these kids know that.

Although making Tubby take him on staff is a solid idea and sets the table for him in the next year or two. Tulsa is doing something similar with Shea Seals.

I will repeat it again for the Tubby haters in the back with their fingers in their ears. While you may want to hamstring your program luckily your President and AD are smarter than that (maybe that's why they're in charge and you're not). No one worth a damn will touch this job if Tubby gets two years. Well no one who is a good coach. Tubby is there until the end of next year at least. Probably the year after that.

I just listed 3 top 80 kids in 2019 who start for him now.

15 years in the NBA is a cup of coffee? Maybe he'll pull out his Olympic gold medal to show those kids who don't remember him.
