Kim Yo Jong's Guestbook Entry May Have Been a Threat
Quote:CNN called Kim Yo Jong's entry in South Korean President Moon Jae-in's guestbook during the 2018 Winter Games a “warm message,” but it may have instead been a threat to destroy South Korea.

“I hope Pyongyang and Seoul get closer in our people's hearts and move forward the future of prosperous unification,” the sister of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un wrote.

While “unification” seems like a positive nod towards compromise and peace, The Weekly Standard explained the same word has drastically different connotations, depending on who is saying it.

The Weekly Standard detailed that South Korea believes “unification” to be relationship-building centered around the goal of bringing North Korea into South Korea's “democratic, capitalist system.”

However, for North Korea, “unification” is referred to as a “final victory,” which would end the Korean War and declare its capital, Pyongyang, the winner. The Weekly Standard reported:

When the North says "unification" they mean final victory over the South, the destruction of a prosperous democracy, and the enslavement of 50 million more Koreans to the [Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un] Kim cult.

The outlet explained the U.S. is also implicated in North Korea's “unification” process. One of the goals is to “split” the U.S. from its alliance with South Korea.

Once left without the U.S. to defend it, North Korea could coerce the nation to submit to it through the use of nuclear weapons.

“Kim Yo Jong’s call for 'unification' isn’t warm: It’s an implicit threat to destroy the country that hosted her,” The Weekly Standard concluded.

I'm pretty sure she wasn't using "unification" as a threat. Both sides play up the eventual reunification of the peninsula for internal and external political reasons and of course both want it to be under their system of government, which is why it's not going to happen till one of those systems collapses completely.

My money is on the system in the north collapsing first.

The south doesn't have money problems and that's the most common way regimes collapse in on themselves. Honestly, now that most of the separated family members are starting to die off, South Korea should just close down all aide with North Korea and let China deal with the mess they created.

As for splitting the south from the US, it's 1000x more likely that the US would initiate that break than the south. The south knows Lil Kim understands that war with the US is the end of him.

This is not secret code, this is what the North Koreans have been saying they would do for 50+ years.

Think of it like this LS

When a democrat says "comprehensive immigration reform" what do they mean?

Just a throwaway message and signature IMHO. Let's say for the sake of argument that she truly is sending an ominous message. Considering the 2 Korea's are technically still at war and that we're still in a cease fire - both sides already know what the other thinks and believes.
