RE: My thoughts on Kennedy at Ole Miss
AK did a really solid job in a really crappy situation. Was always going to be a tough sell, but be an impossible sell to the Memphis fans now given the year he’s had.

100% would’ve been a better hire than Tubby. But then again we should’ve hired Penny then like I said.

Is he a disciple of the Mindtard Goof?

Gene Bartow loved the guy... that still buys some respect from the older alums...

Andy Kennedy is a good coach. A very good X's and O's guy. Penny can recruit top level talent. The 2 of them at Memphis together could be phenomenal.

RE: My thoughts on Kennedy at Ole Miss
I've always been a fan of Kennedy--I wanted him in 2008 and would have been cool with him in 2016. Now's not the time, though.

He would have been a great fit. From the area, played under Gene Bartow, coached under Huggins. Has Memphis basketball connections just was limited by being at Ole Miss.

Oh well.

Oh well.

And he's recruited Memphis better than Tubby has.

So, that's 'Tone, Penny, and now Andy? Anybody else we know maneuvering for starting gate position?

How about Musselman at Nevada

How's he handling it? Twitter attacks, leaks through his trainer, or CSNBBS plants? Those seem to be the favorites so far.

Nope, just recruiting his ass off and taking a traditionally crappy team to the tournament.

Penny has proven he can assemble a solid squad of local AAU players...a far cry to the daily grind of recruiting for a high-major college basketball program.

They’ve targeted Forbes. Stansbury, Gottfried, Ford are other names. Kermit Davis is probably the floor.

Add to that, there are strict rules around when/how you can communicate, what seemingly innocent interactions might be considered and added benefit or inducement, how things he might have provided any number of players directly or indirectly prior to taking the job might impact his ability to recruit those players once he becomes a D1 coach.

Plus, beyond just coaching, we would be asking him to run a multi-million dollar organization with responsibility for direct reports and administrative duties that are likely far beyond any white collar job he has held in the past.

And Team Penny is one of the best funded AAU teams in the country. Fly to tournaments, eat well, stay in decent hotels. He wouldn't have the money advantage over the teams we need to recruit against for Top 100 recruits.

The crazy TV money for the P5s has changed the landscape so much since 2009.

Then what's the use.

We should just shut her down.

Or better yet, keep Tubby.

Why try to recruit anyway?

Right?

Maybe when Joe gets cut loose you can fill his shoes.

In the meantime, I hear IU wants some more fan goofs.

Pffft.

Jeez man. Penny talk gets you fired up.

Memphis will still pay what it takes to compete in hoops, but we can't money whip in hoops the Ole Misses and Moo States and Vandy's like we used to. The TV money disparity is too great. As I believe you said, it is what it is.

The rest of that post should be included, not just that one sentence. AK as HC, plus Penny as an assistant/lead recruiter, is the 'combination' I was promoting. I stand behind that thought still.
