I know we have the cannon in the corner that is run by ROTC, but we don't have a section of cadets in the stands like VT. I think it could be a good way to get more people in the stands and showcase our military presence at ODU and in the Norfolk area.

Would love to see the ODU ROTC get the crowd fired up.

How many are in the corps of cadets at VT? And how many are in the Army and Navy ROTC programs at ODU?

According to Wikipedia 1,100 in the Corps at Tech in 2016. Wiki Link

The only thing I can find for us is from 2001. Then it was 340 combined with more in Navy ROTC than Army ROTC. It did say the numbers were trending up but there is no way we are close to the number in the Corps at Tech. ODU Link

I think the point is, the current number of ROTC attending games regularly and dressed out is very close to 0

Thanks. I will add that our Navy ROTC is a consortium that includes students from NSU, HU and Regent.

All true - for the last few years total ROTC at ODU has averaged around 225.

I think it's a good question. If you can only get a hundred or so ROTC members up there, it may not really accomplish what we want to.

That would be great if they could get out! But VT's ROTC/Cadet Corp isn't even close.

that's the new barracks we just did for them. cool project.

I definitely think its worth trying, especially with attendance falling in college football.

200 men and women in uniform sitting together cheering on their alma mater would be quite inspiring and fun for them and fans alike. Maybe we should give them a special section, even on the side if possible. ODU is supposed to be this huge partner with the military and one of the most "military friendly" schools, so I think this makes sense. Especially so in Norfolk.

With all due respect, I don't think 200 people in uniform in a section is going to move the needle. 200 people in a 20,000 stadium... just think about it. It will barely be noticeable.

Some of the most pessimistic people are on this message board.

IDK it may... The band has about 150 to 200 members and they stick out in our stadium.

Not sure how it is today but back when I was in Navy ROTC, the majority were prior enlisted and had families and not fresh out of HS college student. The Hampton Roads NROTC Consortium was the biggest NROTC unit in the country excluding the schools with a Corps of Cadets (like VT) and we were ~150 strong.

I think it's a great idea and it's pretty amazing what 200 passionate folks can do. It's contagious. Just like pessimism on this board is at times.

The howitzer isn't handled by ROTC students. The Virginia Army National Guard operates the howitzer. 1st Battalion 111th Field Artillery 116th IBCT stationed in Norfolk.

I'm an Army guy. My nephew said there are about 90 of them in Army ROTC.
