Black Panther
I enjoyed it. Surprised me in a couple ways.

Mainly that the theme is more X-Men than I expected.

RE: Black Panther
I heard it was mediocre at best so glad to see a decent review.

RE: Black Panther
I have super hero movie fatigue. The latest Thor movie (which I did not like despite good reviews) just left the theaters in my area.

RE: Black Panther
I think it was overrated. The reviews were REALLY good but it was an okay movie for me. Not as bad as the Thor storyline but close. To much politics for me versus just action from a superhero movie. I wish they would have spend more time doing car chases and fight scenes rather than blathering about globalism versus isolationism. Fight scenes were good but special effects with the space ship/hovercraft thing were pretty bad IMO.

I wanted to like it more after the last Avengers movie and the intro of Black Panther but wish I had waited until streaming versus spending the $$$ for theater.

RE: Black Panther
Is it going to be a movie where no matter how one really feels, they "have" to like it because they are supposed to like it?

RE: Black Panther
I think it’s very good and not great. Strong B+. I don’t think it’s the best comic movie, but it is up there with the top quarter of the MCU. I’d put it on equal footing with Spider-Man Homecoming.

I get the excitement about it and why reviews are so glowing.

It’s the MLK vs. Malcolm X battle. It’s story is unique for the MCU, and other than Baron Zemo (and maybe Vulture) I don’t think any other MCU villain had motivations that weren’t purely villainous.

I will say the villain, Killmonger, was very good in this one. Very interesting back story and good analogy of MLK vs. Malcolm X.

I'm a big fan of Michael B. Jordan.

RE: Black Panther
I though it was excellent, and has a generational cultural significance, like Roots did in the 1970's and Malcolm X did in the 1990's, at least for Black Americans, if not Africans throughout the diaspora.

It asks the fundamental question of how a generally oppressed and colonized African country, with its abundant resources and culture, would be different if they would not have been colonized? Think of this through the lens of how the Uranium in the Congo characterized the independence struggle of the nation and the eventual death of the revolutionary Patrice Lumumba.

RE: Black Panther
The Marvel stuff just keeps getting better.

Can't wait to see this one.

Thor and BP were my favorite Avengers growing up.

I was also very into their respective solo titles.
