RE: New Roost
What was wrong with the old Roost? Was this because of a donation?

Just curious what the expected ROI is on this construction. I do not see the old roost as having been a detriment to Reckling or a factor in attendance at all.

This is just part of a 3-phased Reckling enhancement effort with most of the funding provided by donors. Next year a Rice baseball "museum"/HOF and play area will be built around and above the new Roost, along with extended RF line stands.

Gotcha. Was this a plan from the Athletics Department that solicited funding from donors? or was it something that donors drove?

I understand the batting facility as having tangible results towards the team, but not clear on the Roost - was the old one a problem? Was it identified as a reason for lower attendance or less than satisfactory game day experience?

All planning was RBI Club driven, in coordination with The OG, and approved by the AD.

That doesn't really answer my question though. I mean yes, it clearly had to be reviewed and approved for construction to begin.

I answered your first question-- this was donor driven; not driven by the AD.

Sounds fine to me but is the area along the right field where kids used to play makeshift baseball games gone now? Maybe they can use the area in left field now for that purpose?

I understand we are extending the netting out past 1st/3rd bases - smart. We've been lucky so far.

It's done. Goes about 3/4 of the way down the line past all the seating areas and new Roost. The new netting is only vertical at the fence. i.e., no overhead netting like that that extends from the roof between about the dugouts on both sides.

The new netting will protect from line drives, but fly balls/pop ups will still find the seating areas.

Around and above? Maybe just me, but I don't see how or why something gets built above a building with a hipped roof.

The old Roost was a tent with picnic tables, and the field wasn't visible from under the tent.

The new Roost is something all the cool ballparks are doing.

Agree, all the P5 $$$ rolling downhill to bb etc requires us to at least be in the same ballpark facility-wise . We are trying to recruit 16- 18 yo kids, afterall!

RE: New Roost
I tried out the "new" Roost tonight. Very nice. Jose Cruz was out there front and center. However, I'll miss the good old days sipping a beer in the back of the "old" roost whilst SR heckled the visitor's bullpen. Sigh. Good times.
