So when UConn loses two players at the beginning of the season and another during the season, that affects THEIR placement, which affects Memphis'.

UCF loses Fall and Taylor and they drop games they aren't supposed to. That affects them and others.

When SMU was rolling along and then loses two players, then their best player, then have two other's limited, that affects THEIR standing, which affects Memphis.

If this, if that... the fact is that most experts expected us to finish 9th or worse (most were worse, some even said last) in the AAC. We’ll do better than that.

Now some glorify wins over Tulane by our highest paid coach in history.

It’s amazing really how quickly he lowered some’s expectations.

And what has martin said that has been fundamentally wrong? Jay had the same hot take when they won 4 in a row but then they started losing again and he stopped responding. Let’s leave the 6th in the conf talk (the fact that he’s even punping that up makes me laugh) until the season is over. He was spouting off that narrative before and then they stared to slide and fall in the standing and he shut up again.

The thing is, if you follow what he's saying, is that while he's not satisfied with that the simple truth is they are exceeding preseason expectations. Of course we all want them to win the AAC. Or compete for the title. But with the Lawson's quitting on Memphis and Markel leaving, Tubby and the kids are overachieving based on expectations.

They aren't overachieving AT ALL.

This year, according to the vegas line, they have won three games in which they were underdogs: @Temple, @SMU, and @Tulane

I'll count Tulane but the facts the last minute DNP for their starting PG would have shifted the line. The more we know about SMU, the less of a surprise that is.

As for losing as favorites, Memphis lost to ECU and at vs. UCF.

Their three best wins are vs. Temple, NKU, and Tulsa.

This is why the comparison of this team to the 'Lawson' team is being viewed completely opposite of how it should be, IMO. If this team can match the production of last year's team, then how badly did last year's team under-achieve? I am not a fan of how this program has been over the last 3-5 seasons. This season's record is not making up for that. I don't care so much that we get top recruits/blue chips/national rankings. I want the PROGRAM to be something to be proud of again.

Bingo! We have a winning post. I’ve said several times, beating Tulane, ECU, South Florida means nothing. I expect us to win those games. I expected Larry, Calipari, josh, and now I expect Tubby to beat teams that we should beat. We use to blow those teams out.

My dad for example didn’t like the hire from day one. I told him we should give him a chance. To my dad’s credit, he still goes to the games. But he wants Tubby gone because the recruiting is garbage. What I get sick of is having to hear the people who never have a negative word to say about Tubby criticizing good Tiger fans who aren’t happy with Tubby, yet still go to the games. Those folks irk me.
