04-cheers

Becoming a regular in almost every sport.

To bad Cincy couldn't quite hold on to top 10. Nice boost to WSU for the victories.

Hopefully everyone keeps on course and peaks going into the tourny.

Pretty big drop off after 23 in terms of votes.

Vote-wise, Houston at 23 is closer to 18 than 24.

When Houston went in to Philly and beat up a fairly hot Temple club, that got all the east coast basketball geniuses attention. If Houston loses, it's business as usual and we're talking bubble all the way through the end of the season and into the conference tourney.

I nailed it yesterday when I said Houston would be #23 and WS #13. Cincinnati ? Ugh. I thought they'd fall only to 7th...

All I know is, conference tournaments are a helluva lot of fun when you have at least three Top 20 teams going at it.

The American only had that once before.

Historical rankings going into the conference tournament:

2014
Louisville 5/5
Cincy 12/13
Memphis 19/19
UConn 21/21
SMU 23/25

2015
SMU 20/21

2016
SMU 25/NR

2017
SMU 12/15
Cincy 15/18

That 2014 year is the year that concerns me. SMU didnt get in.

Good call.

Duke and Kansas are the only teams in the poll that would fall 2 spots after 0-2 weeks.

Well this is one thing I can't remember happening in the MoValley for a long, long time. We've had two top 10-15 teams with two others getting votes, but 3 top 25 teams I cannot remember ever happening since the old days. I'm sure it happened in the 80's, 60's etc.

We did send 4 teams to the Dance in 2006 with two teams reaching the Sweet 16. It appears only one of the four were ranked at the time with UNI @ 25th. 03-lmfao Back then it was nearly impossible to get into the top 25 unless you were in a power conference. Wichita State changed that in 2007 shooting all the way to #8 before imploding with internal struggles.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/con.../2006.html

We used to love trolling Creighton for not even making the Dance in the Valley's greatest year of the modern era.

I knew Cincinnati would drop hard. Their reputation is ingrained within the media circles. They need to break out. Cronin needs to break out. The media was looking for any excuse to hit 'em hard. The exact opposite is true for Wichita State and the sole reason for that is our coach and his reputation in the tournament.

I think it's possible to have a Top 10 match up when cincy and wsu meat again. That would be awesome.

I actually thought there was a good chance we would move ahead of Cincy due to our media darling status. I didn't make this prediction out loud. Looks like I wasn't that far off.

They got dinged for playing a very weak OOC in the preseason, and losing the only 2 real games they played. Their noncon SOS was 302.

They got dinged for an RPI of 53, with a 4-6 record against Top 100 with 3 of those wins coming at home.

And they got dinged for getting upset by Houston in the first round of the conference tournament. That was the final nail in the coffin.

Our situation is nothing like that.

Now, if we lose the next 5 games, we could be in trouble.

Easily; that's four games away. Neither team can lose until that game of course.

Three MVC teams were ranked in the 82-83 season, but not at the same time; Tulsa, Ill State, WSU https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/con.../1983.html
Three MVC teams were ranked in the 2006-07 season, but not at the same time: Creighton, WSU, SIU
Two MVC teams were ranked at the end for the 2011-12 season (WSU and Creighton)
Two MVC teams ranked in the 2012-13 season, only one week at the same time though (WSU and Creighton)
Two MVC teams ranked most of the 2-14-15 season (WSU and UNI)

You have to go back to the 1970-71 season when three MVC teams were ranked at the same time: Drake, Louisville and New Mexico State
It also happened in 1968-69 with Drake, Louisville and Cincinnati
1966-67: Louisville, Bradley, Cincy

Here's a gem from 1960-61. Four MVC teams ranked at once: Bradley, Drake, St. Louis and WSU. Cincy got ranked later in the year for five in one year.
1958-59 & 1959-60: three ranked all-year long: Cincy, Bradley and St. Louis
1950-51 Three ranked all year long: Oklahoma State, Bradley, St. Louis

You are welcome

The more you know . . .

Also think we could see two top 15 games in the tournament back to back with semis and finals. Talk about putting the spotlight on the conference.

Wonder which will be a higher ranked match up, basketball conference championship or football conference championship.

Power 6 is two ranked teams fighting for championships.

Women basketball has two locks and a couple teams with an opportunity to go dancing in Houston and UCF.

Baseball looks stacked.

The future of this conference is so bright we need sunglasses to see it.
