I don't blame him for now knowing who Charlie Moore is but I do blame him for not even trying to recruit him once he got the job here. Tubby didn't have time for that, he had to deal with priorities, namely going on vacation and hiring Saul.

Every coach has different players on their radar and focus on them. I do blame him for barely contacting him, not contacting Nick Marshall once, I think only contacting Woodson once, and barely trying to convince Markel to stay.

Forbes is off limits because of the show cause, even if he was following Sweathog's orders when he lied. Along with having no experience, other concerns with Penny would be him not knowing all the rules and wondering if he would even follow them. Given some of the stuff going on with him at the high school level, it is a legitimate question.

The school can't afford to hire anyone that will be perceived as shady. That is why this Tubby mess happened in the first place.

Wiseman to UK should be no surprise to anyone who follows recruiting.

A lot of guys are interesting. The key is AD doing their due diligence during the hiring process. Shooting them down 1 by 1 is the process.


Point is to find someone with experience in coaching that can lead (what could be) a major Div 1 program, recruit (Memphis area or another ala Cal in Jersey), get the job done in game, and be involved enough to increase interest with HS players and local fans. Let's get someone in here who can do the job. Not questionably, possibly, maybe do the job. When you pay Top10 coaching salary, have competitive facilities, play in NBA arena, and are located in talent rich city in the middle of talent rich area of country......winning is very easy in Memphis. Find someone who doesn't complicate the process. Someone who will put in the time, make connections with people, and be a work-a-holic. Because the job and pay deserve that.

For the record: I think Forbes would kill it here

Whether it be Wiseman or some other high level recruit, Penny is going to attract talent immediately. His introductory press conference would be the most mentioned event in Tiger basketball since the Final Four trip to San Antonio. It is exactly what this program needs right now.
