Several Semi-automatic rifles were available in the 50's.

SKS
M14 (semiauto for civilian use)
Baretta BM59 (semiauto for civilian use)
and several others.

Semi-automatic shotguns were also readily available.

What we didn't have in the 50's was rampant illegal drug use, millions of people on anti-depressants and anxiety medicine, and scores of fatherless homes, just to name a few.

Most people were unaware or unwilling to purchase them. There was a shooting in CA in the 80s that put them on the map so to speak. Also contribute was the drug war and the citizens feeling the police either unwilling or unable to protect them.

What?!? Lol.

Omigarsh...

Absolutely Rush nailed it. Talk about it all the time. I wish it were 1969 all over again.

Guess you didn't read the last line. This country adapting would be to put armed guards at schools.

No this country adapting would be to take assault weapons off the street and to contain the problem known as white anger.

Out and out racist. This is 2018, yet your prejudice is stuck back in the dark ages.

Society was also far from perfect at that time. Rush is romanticizing the past.

No, he's not. I grew up in the 50s. The only ones with any type of weapons were the Pachucos (hoodlums) and if they were good at their pachuchismo they owned a zip gun. Truthfully, I heard about those things but I never really saw one.

A person could leave his house unlocked. Wow, what a concept. We could play in the streets at night. We could ride our bicycles any place in the city at all hours.

Do you know what we didn't have? All the whiny, safe space advocates wanting a Socialist country. I lie. We still had those unholywood types being investigated by Mr. McCarthy. He was right, it was rife with Communists. But, they hadn't encroached into academia brainwashing ignorant, easy to manipulate snowflakes.

The Venona papers proved McCarthy was right...
