Teachers flooding CCW classes
In Butler County, demand is high after Sheriff Jones offers free concealed carry classes to teachers.

WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones offered free concealed weapon training to teachers in his jurisdiction, a few days after a gunman killed 17 people at a Florida high school.

Jones' offer included space for 50 teachers. Demand was four times that high.

Premier Shooting and Training Center is offering to help, by providing free concealed carry classes to teachers. Premier also will have discounted classes on how to handle medical crises.

RE: Teachers flooding CCW classes
I think you and the sheriff may be overselling this a tad.

First, it's one class in Ohio. Not classes across the country. And he doesn't specifically say anywhere whether the 200 are all teachers. Only that he reserved 50 spots for teachers. Additionally, he says they've "reached 200 interests". Does that mean 200 people have just expressed an interest...or does that mean 200 have actually enrolled?

Whatever? I can guarantee you that CNN or MSNBC can’t find a single one of them to interview.

I just heard on the radio that the demand is even higher. The initial class is limited to 50.

Don't know if any recent polling has been done, but in a survey after Sandy Hook, teachers weren't looking to arm themselves any time soon. Maybe it's changed...I doubt it.

Quote:America’s educators resoundingly reject the notion of arming school employees. Only 22 percent of NEA members polled favor a proposal to allow teachers and other school employees to receive firearms training and allow them to carry firearms in schools, while 68 percent oppose this proposal (including 61 percent who strongly oppose it.)

AGAIN, based on what has been sourced here so far, it's one class in one state and we don't even have any official word on how many teachers have actually enrolled in the class.

What does that have to do with the opinion of teachers? I doubt any school system would attempt to force teachers to carry a gun.
