W&M's shot at 50/40/80
Well, in typical RT-D fashion, absolutely nothing was written about our exciting victory over College of Charleston, not one sentence.

However, in their defense, they did have John O'Conner write a nice piece on our run at setting a new NCAA record for shooting accuracy. So, I guess I'll give 'em a bit of a break...until the next time they ignore us...again.

That is a good article with some good press for the Tribe. It also appears to answer the question that Billymac was going to research. The first sentence of that article ("William & Mary has a chance to make Division I hoops history in March") confirms (because it says the history would be made in March and our only games in March are tournament games) what I said in the Charleston thread (post 116) about "I believe that all games count in college stats".

So we need to keep it up for as many more games as we play!

A very good article! Thanks for sharing.

I'm amazed that in the hometown of the CAA, as the closest CAA school, and with a respectable W&M alumni base and fan base (at least in terms of size) in the Richmond area that the RTD does not follow W&M closer.

Or, in the case of Sunday, not at all.

I do believe that this is the type situation that this board could address. If all the Richmond area alums on this board took a minute to email, or tweet, Michael Phillips (the new Sports Editor), to tell him (respectfully) that we would appreciate more coverage of our sports teams, including the info that Richmond is the 3rd largest concentration of W&M alums in the country and how exciting this team is, it might make him aware, at least, of how many people would like more coverage.

His email is: mphillips@timesdispatch.com

I would think his twitter handle is similar.

I hear you, Billymac, and I am with you. It all has to do with winning and losing; ie, to the winners go the spoils (media coverage). If we were winning football national championships (or even going to the playoffs on a regular basis) or if we were an occasional participant in the NCAA tournament then we would get more coverage in Richmond. The RTD probably thinks that they give us more than adequate coverage (after all, note that on their sports webpage that they list W&M fifth on the list of teams covered (UR/VCU, UVA/Tech, then W&M, then JMU).

I tried for many, many years (as I'm sure that you and others have, too) to get RTD editors and columnists to give more coverage to the Tribe. Bill Millsaps was the best editor as far as Tribe coverage was concerned and, since him, all those editors seem to have gotten progressively worse in that regard.

Yeah, I still haven't given up. I email/annoy Michael (and his predecessor) with regularity.
