We need Irby and Wallner to start hitting as they are the only 2 starters hitting under .300. Irby is making contact but just not finding enough open spots.

Wallner went back to swinging at the first pitch tonight.....he needs to fix that.....it's becoming too predictable.....

8-3 now on only 7 hits.....

they've made a handful of fielding mistakes more that the 'E boxscore' will show....

Eagles win 9-4 in front of an estimated 1,000 (Cox). No official number was given.

RE: Pensacola tournament baseball
you really have to love how this team generates runs almost at will....

easily one of the best lineups in the nation at the plate....

if this team stays healthy and Colt comes back with at least last year's stuff, this team is dangerous against anyone.....

you never know when it comes to baseball how it plays out in the long run........however, this team is as good as it gets watching as a fan of the sport and school......

As the season goes on, we will begin to get better pitching from the freshmen and first year guys once they get used to this level of play.

I don’t believe we will know much about this team until conference play.

Right now, I suspect that this is a good team that will make a regional. I don’t think this team is comparable to last year’s...but that’s an unfair comparison to make in early March.

At this point, pitching is bad. No way around it. A LOT can and will change over the year with a pitching staff . For example, Braley was having control issues as a midweek starter at this point last year. He ended the season as our best pitcher. Things will have to get a lot better than they are now for this to even be a regional team, though. I suspect they will but it’s hard to see this staff being close to as good as last year’s group—one that, itself, lacked bullpen depth despite a very good rotation and an elite multi-inning closer. And that’s the problem, for me. I’m not worried about us finding another good starter (and maybe a third if Smith returns to form). I’m worried about how the bullpen finishes games.

Last year’s lineup was off-the-charts good. To say this lineup won’t be as good is not a knock. This is still a really good lineup. That lineup was just an absolute machine with a blend of depth, power, speed, and plate discipline that you rarely see. There’s almost nowhere to go but down from last year.

I also suspect C-USA will have to be better this year.

Agree with all of this except I think CUSA is a dumpster fire. Possibly a 1-bid league.

We will have to win 40 games to make a regional, I think. The RPI/SOS and top 50 wins probably aren’t going to be there.

If this team was in the AAC, I’d be worried.

Irbys gotta start hitting the ball. If not, may be benched in another week or two.

Sandlin has his 88 mph whiffle ball working to perfection.....

it's scary how much his ball moves as it enters the plate....

I normally would not agree with you about benching a senior early in the season. But given the outfield depth we have, Irby’s limitations as a player (no power, not very fast) and that we have a ton of left-handed bats already, we might not stick with him for that long
