The vast majority of gun related violence happens between family members and friends and quite often alcohol is involved. Mass shootings may be carried out by folks mentally unstable, but they are really the exception. Focusing on mental illness is a red herring. It won't change much.

It is pretty clear from the context that he is talking about taking guns away from one nutcase in Florida, and similarly situated nutcases elsewhere, not the other 7,999,999 AR-15 owners. And I think, or at least hope, that most 2nd Amendment advocates would support that.

Parkland did not happen because of the AR-15. It happened because numerous, repeated, obvious warning signs went unheeded. Fixing that is the way to fix this problem. The only way.

The only problem I've had so far is his proposed bump stock ban, because I know it won't do anything other than open the door for the alt-left to come back and select another item off their little wish list after the next, inevitable shooting.

With that said, we have better arguments for those items than we do with bump stocks, so that isn't a hill I'm willing to die on.

He can propose whatever he wants. It's got to pass Congress before it becomes law, and I highly doubt that Congress is going to go for it.

But if by some off chance they do it will get struck down by the courts because you can't take away someone's rights in this country without due process.
