Turns out it's a diner in Utah so we would also have to add BYU.

Army & Toledo

Army - Tradition, worldwide fanbase ...
Toledo - Very good football, good basketball, and decent sized market ( metro population, 600,000 +). Would be a natural rival for Cincy ...

No offense, but Toledo is kind of run down and has been declining in population for multiple decades; might as well go for Youngstown State while we're at it.

Agreed on Youngstown, it’s been rundown after the mills closed up. Toledo not so much. Over 100 million in private development ( new Hilton hotel/ expanded convention center and upscale townhomes in the downtown area are planned).
As for Wichita, take away the basketball and Glen Campbell coming along in the 60’s, never really heard about your town.
Last but not least, Katie Holmes is our hometown sweetie...

That would be a big step in the right direction.

I wouldn't mind Gonzaga with BYU as combo but in BYU's case they would need to bring their football along, BYU as a basketball only is a non-starter
Very true. Especially the part in bold.

It depends who would be added as 13 and 14.

I think the Independent road in football is tougher than BYU expected, and was seen as a quick fix anyway to get out of the MWC and non-BCS status. That's where I think the AAC doesn't offer much upside for BYU since the AAC a non-BCS conference in football.
Heh, I know what you mean but BCS ended 4-5 years ago.

Quote:I would love to have the Cougars in the AAC for all-sports. Great fans, national name, great academics. Utah in the PAC-12 for BYU is problematic as the gap in the Beehive State is beginning to widen, especially in football. The Cougars may be more motivated to move quickly now, especially if the AAC could package BYU in the P6 angle somehow.
BYU is deeply invested in football-Independence and won’t give it up unless it turns into a total disaster. That hasn’t happened yet, but last season had to be very disturbing to their fans.

Agreed. My concern is if AAC lifts them up, they’ll repay us by jumping to the BigEast later on.

Georgia St: 50k

GSU intrigues me. I'm not advocating adding them anytime soon, but they seem to have potential.
Their time is not yet, but making major strides in all areas and will be a force in another decade or so. Maybe less.

If you add one football-playing school, then you have to add two. At this point, two probably takes away value from the conference instead of adding value. With basketball you have more flexibility as far as who would add value to the conference. VCU does that.
Agree on the football add-ons. You need to have 2 ready/willing/able to go at the same time. That doesn’t exist right now. Therefore, expansion isn’t happening right now.

True. For now.

Not in athletics, it isn’t.

Quote:just because that have an enrollment of "50k" doesn't necessarily translate into major fan interest. They are a large, urban, commuter school; I don't think they fit into what this conference is trying to do.
Not right now. Give it a few years. You’ll see.

Very similar trajectory, yes.

Quote:UCF/USF/Louisville were all once commuter schools. If you could buy in early on a program like that in Atlanta...
Isn't that still true? And if not, since when?

I can fully appreciate the bitterness that UConn (especially) and UC must’ve felt when UL was handed the golden-ticket and they were left behind. Don’t begrudge them the resentment AT ALL. But just from a purely selfish standpoint, I’m really thankful UL isn’t in this league. UC and UConn are a much better class of people. I felt that way at the time [2012] and of course all of UL’s sleazy scandals since then confirm that it’s true.
