RE: Florida possibly setting clocks ahead permanently
If the big reason for the time change is so kids aren't getting on he bus in the dark during winter that is no reason to do it.

Don't know about where you all live but where I live kids don't wait at a bus stop any more. They run out of their houses when the bus arrives. (I hate it because it makes the bus stop every three houses and jacks up traffic but that's another issue.)

But maybe today's snowflakes can't run from their front doors to the bus without daylight.

I'd just be happy if we stayed on one time year round, regardless of whether or not that time is standard or daylight.

Beyond the hassle of the time change, there's are lots of studies that show an increase in strokes and car accidents the Monday after daylight savings time starts.

I don't care what they do just so long as it continues to be 5 o'clock somewhere.

Since the panhandle is on central, I would guess this means that the Redneck Riviera would be on central daylight year round. That could complicate things in winter at the Flora-Bama.

No, in summer they would be on the same time as the rest of the Eastern Time Zone, one hour ahead of Central, 2 hours ahead of Mountain and 3 hours ahead of Pacific. In winter they would be an hour ahead of Eastern, 2 ahead of Central, 3 ahead of Mountain and 4 ahead of Pacific.

I think what you mean to say is yes, they'll be on Atlantic Time.

By the clock yes, permanent Atlantic Standard Time. But by naming convention they would call it permanent Eastern Daylight Time. Per the OP article, it's Maine/NH/Mass. that are considering changing to Atlantic Time Zone.

If I remember correctly, TN has a permanent DST bill that has been getting some attention lately. Would be interesting since we have both Eastern and Central time zones and border 8 other states.

Again, the answer is yes. To be precise, they would be on Atlantic Standard Time.

Not sure why you can’t grasp that.

There is a difference between Atlantic Time as you previously stated and Atlantic Standard Time.

Except that there isn’t.

So is Atlantic Time=Atlantic Standard Time? Or Atlantic Time=Atlantic Daylight Time? Or both?

Using Eastern as an example instead, we are on Eastern Standard Time (EST) during the winter months. When we "spring ahead" an hour in the spring we are on Eastern Daylight (Saving) Time (EDT) and "fall back" to EST in the fall. Eastern Prevailing Time (EPT or just ET) is used to refer to whichever is in effect currently. People often make the mistake of using EST all the time, even when daylight saving is in effect.

or 4:20....sorry, couldn't resist....

the bottom line is I agree with consistency across the board for business purposes.....

municipalities going ad-hoc with time is simply fk'n stupid.....

I had to deal with that shite back in the day managing designs/database facilities on both the east and west coast after getting bought out....

.....it was nothing more than a 2x4 up my arse.....there was a reason HR called me in for a 'one time only' conference to 'administer',"stinkfist, you really need to keep the *****, goddammms, and motherfokkers, to a minimum" as I was on the horn more than anyone would ever enjoy as a "job".....

I really don't miss that world.....

again, from a business perspective, the only thing that matters is achieving efficiency via consistency.....

six sigma concepts should be taught by 6th grade to those that have the ability to comprehend.....

quite a few tangents I tapped upon on a simple concept relative to time....

As they say, the farther north in Florida you go, the further south you are.

I'm for using prime numbers for the clock. 61 minute hours, 23 hours per day, 7 days per week 53 weeks per year, and 37 time zones worldwide. I don't sleep or work regular hours so WTF do I care?

RE: Florida possibly setting clocks ahead permanently
More seriously, both time zones and daylight time should probably be done away with altogether. Florida has an easy choice by doing away with daylight time without the need for congressional approval. That would be more in line with other states, but I don't know what real benefit there is to be an outlier in the Atlantic Standard time zone.

I'd be all in favor of having Texas move to UTC+0. Sunrise at around noon, sunset at midnight. I can adjust, and it would make a lot of things simpler and more intuitive.
