I'm close to you.....

AL Cy Young- Snell
NL Cy Young- de Grom
NL MVP- Yelich
AL MVP- Betts
NL ROY- Acuna
AL ROY- Ohtani

the NL ROY may be really crazy. I saw a place where they were doing a group vote. ROY vote is 5 1st, 3 pts 2nd, 1 pt 3rd. Well it was a unanimous Acuta with all 1st place, Soto with all 2nd place, and Buehler with all 3rd place.

Acuna is a great choice as well. Almost picked him.

Re NL Cy Young vote - this is just...um...I don't know how this happens...

John Maffei of the San Diego Union-Tribune Wrote:Yes, the Mets were a bad club, offensively and defensively. He didn’t get run support. One emailer pointed out that if the Mets had scored two runs in DeGrom’s starts, he would have been 20-6; three runs would have been 25-1; four runs 30-0.
But you know what they say about ifs and buts. The numbers are what they are and — after hours of consideration — I was swayed by Scherzer’s 18-7 mark in 220 2/3 innings on an under-achieving Nationals club.
I spoke with Randy Jones, a man I greatly respect. He was 22-14 with a bad Padres team in 1976 and won the Cy Young Award.
In that conversation, Randy said, “Wins are the most important thing in the game. You need to pitch to the run support you get, whether that’s one, two, three or 12."

Maffei is the voter who gave Scherzer his single first place vote. And for the record, if he really felt Scherzer was the better pitcher, that's fine - we can agree to disagree. But to attribute his vote to, basically, run support? @#$%

I think with wins IMO is that it's no longer a disqualifying thing not having them.

BUT it's definitely a bonus for the ones that get 20 or more wins.

I think with how close the race was with Snell vs Verlander- Snell getting 21 wins probably helped him quite a bit. Probably swung the race quite frankly.

Yes, Randy, they are. But you'd think that someone who spent 20-plus years of his life playing baseball would know that even the best pitcher can't win games by himself, especially when his teammates score almost no runs.

Now run along and go make us some barbecue, Randy.

It's obviously still a factor for some voters, but can you tell me WHY? Are you ok with Jones' point: "You need to pitch to the run support you get..."???

I think if you get 20 wins- means you've been better than your opponents a lot on that day.

I love the folks over at Fan Graphs who are going bat **** crazy about Snell winning it because of ERA. Saying that it should be based on FIP and xFIP. Sorry but f that. FIP and xFIP are what should have happened stats to me and will always be what should have happened..... Folks there want to discount that the voters are using ERA more than ever.....

Can a pitcher throw a bad game and earn a win?

Yes. BUT if you have a great ERA and you have 20+ wins- You've been pretty damn good and not have many bad game wins.

And lets look at Snell who had 21 wins. He didn't in any single win give up ever more than 2 runs. So Snell never threw a bad game and got a win.

RE: 2018 MLB Season Thread
I saw something pretty funny. Yeah Snell didn't give up 3 runs in any win this year. So no cheap wins....

BUT- and this is LOL funny- deGrom did. He had a start vs Yankees where he gave up 3 runs(2 earned) and got the win in a 7-5 game.......

Congrats to stever for that. BTW- did you get both manager of the year candidates correct also? (Honor system).

Congrats also to the two Braves: Acuna, JR. and Mgr Brian Snitker. Looking forward to a fun 2019. Go Braves!

Ronald Acuna was announced on Monday as the winner of the 2018 National League Rookie of the Year award.
Advice: Acuna was seen as the favorite over Juan Soto, although the vote was expected to be close. As it turns out, it wasn't, as Acuna received 27 of 30 first-place votes, with Soto picking up two and Walker Buehler one. Acuna rode a monster second half to a final batting line of .293/.366/.552 with 26 home runs for the Braves.

Those Marlins games will be fun with him from now on.
