NCAA is never going to allow it. They said so on March 11.

After the FBI investigation is over they may not have a choice. Come next year Selection Sunday may look totally different. Especially if these so called runners bring out their ledgers and former players that have no repercussions start talking.

It's just going to be like the steroid era in baseball. The mindset will be well everyone was doing it so no one gets punished. They are never going to eat their own.

I thought this at first then the more I thought about it the NCAA will have a PR nightmare on their hands if they set and do nothing. There have been rumored up to 50 HC and many more AC caught up in this.

I know a guy that was a high major recruit in the early 2000s that ended up signing with Indiana his first year and transferred out west for his other 3 years. He told me a story once about visiting Kentucky (Tubby Years). He said that everything went normal until he got ready to leave where he was taken in a room with Tubbys right hand man at the time former Georgia and Marshall HC Ron Jirsa. He said Jirsa left the room and a runner/agent came in. He then preceded to tell him if he planed on signing with Kentucky there was a bowl of keys on the table just take one. He then explained to him that he wouldn't have to worry about what to tell people about where he got the car. That they would give him legal papers to show that he won the car in a contest.

But they've formed a "committee" to look at this problem.

They're going to promise to clean it up. And it will last all of two years before it goes back to the same way.

Forbes would be a homerun hire. He may be looking to get to a P5 program though.

So would middle using Kermit to hire the next coach sorta be like pitino not wanting calipari because he wouldn't be a good Kentucky guy.

I could see Pitt looking real hard at Forbes. I know Pitt is a decent job but its a dumpster fire right now. The Kevin Stallings hire was a complete disaster. And as of right now there are 8 kids on the Pitt roster that have ask for their release.

I think Forbes moves on this year but it will be somewhere higher than MTSU.

Well, if he's going to do it he better do it now, because folks may not look at him the same next year. He loses all five starters and 70% of his points production from this past season. He will have one player on the roster that averaged more than 20 minutes a game.

I'm a little surprised he was so quick to sign an extension.

I find coaches sign ext. or even have new contracts drawn up to help protect the school they are at to get a higher buyout. I mean if you was a DI HC and you was making say 500K a year at a mid major program and you was on your next to last or last year of your contract but you knew you was a hot commodity, wouldn't you sign an ext. or new contract to help the school get as much money as they could when you get poached.

Most buyouts are the price of the contract still on the coach. And any major conference school could easily buy that coach out even if it was in the million dollar range.

I don't know that would factor into my thinking. Technically, the buyout is the responsibility of the coach unless the new school agrees to pick up the tab. Not sure I would want that to be the sticking point that my move hinged on.

Plus, Forbes got a deal that will pay him nearly as much as Kermit was making. I suspect that was his motivation.

Ive never seen a school that just hired a successful lower coach say "Hey you are responsible for your own buyout". Technically they are but the school who is hiring always pays the buyout.

I've seen it, so no it's not always.

RE: Any News on Middle's Coaching Search?
FWIW, from Hoopdirt...

The search at Middle Tennessee is heating up. The three names that I’m hearing the most are Xavier associate head coach Travis Steele (will wait to see what Mack does first), UMBC’s Ryan Odom (obviously a hot commodity), and UNC Asheville head coach Nick McDevitt.

There are at least two other names, but I'm getting the vibe that we've had little traction with either one of them. You can probably figure out who they are.
