2007 All over again
This really feels like 2007, football on the rise but not there yet at national level. Basketball looks like a rebuild.

Clearly the basketball team is going to improve because it has a lot young players. How much improvement? Not sure but let’s have fun along the way and win a few big games this year. Even Mick’s first team beat Xavier, WVU, and NC State. Somehow I think they make adjustments and figure out.

Oh yeah, all those freshmen looked great last night. Football school.

Ice cold night isn’t exactly a draw for most fans.

It wouldn't stop anyone from showing up to Sunday Night Football or something like that. Cold is football weather, and it isn't even going to be that cold. Maybe it's an excuse for someone looking for an excuse, other than that I don't really buy it.

Try convincing a wife, small child, or a senior citizen that 20 degrees isn’t that cold. For hardcore it’s any weather any time.

So true. Bengals and Steelers @ PBS in this weekend's weather and you've got 65,000. My guess is USF brings way less than a thousand fans too. That was a built-in bonus in the old Big East: Louisville, WVU and to a lesser extent, Pitt and Syracuse, actually brought fans the way P5 schools do to fill in the corners.

Our growing fan base is encouraging, but not real resilient when it comes to the weather.

Wife and I are seniors but never miss. Just learn to dress. Heavy socks and hiking boots, long johns over jeans, turtle neck, sweater, down jackets, gloves and hat. Bring a blanket and a flask.

Small children and Seniors are rare. The women fans, I see, seem to keep up with the men. You seem to be rounding quiet about with your temperature number too.

Haha. That's why I like you Doss. But don't you have a enclosed room you can escape to as well?

Basketball is in far better shape now than it was in 2007.

I know. Yesterday just felt like watching those early Mick teams.

RE: 2007 All over again
what really made me sour on mick after he threw that team under the bus saying they weren't even division one material. he was painting an accurate picture he might not have meant to be disrespectful but he sure wasn't appreciative. man, those were some brutal years. when beating rutgers was a minor victory. john williamson got the opportunity of a lifetime. in hindsight he might have destroyed the mac. i thought marcus sykes was gonna be a find but then he turned out to not be division one material. and people certainly don't give deonta vaughn enough praise. the building blocks of the program

We're already getting some of those excuses from our friend group. Lot of guys going, no wives or kids. And these are people with season tickets already in hand.

Agree with bearcatlawjd as well. Just because a couple of you guys know some women and seniors that are down with the weather, doesn't mean that there are others that are bothered by it. It is a factor-- especially with this fickle fan base.

And the only reason that the Bengals and Steelers are packed for a cold game is because there are 25,000 Steeler fans in the stands. USF will bring maybe 150 moms, dads and girlfriends at most.

RE: 2007 All over again
The university would've been wise to do some type of discounted ticket promo. Looking at gobearcats.com, there are huge swaths of sections still open. There are several sections that look to be no more than 10% sold up in the Shank. At this rate I'm guessing the Shank will be less than half full, probably by quite a bit. And the corners are pretty sparse too, 116, 118 and 110 are pretty wide open. Actually most of the entire lower level of the visitors side looks to be only around half sold.

i thought most of those non-lower level on the visitor side were season tickets. the visitor reserved section is the first 5 or 6 rows so those are often not sold. navy brought out a lot of vets.
