The forecast is cold rain - not ice or snow. Low for the day is supposed to be 35.

If we are able to score 30+ on offense this game then we are legit championship contenders, in my opinion. Rocco has always had a special formula for JMU and held us to 20 points last year. Delaware has 2 CAA first team players on defense, so it will say something if we are able to continue to run the ball effectively.

We are a 23 point favorite on 5Dimes. UNI is a 27.5 favorite over some guy named Lamar.

The rain and any chance of frozen precip (such as sleet or freezing rain) is greater earlier in the day on Saturday. The 3 pm start will be much better than something like 12 noon or 1 pm. If anything, the decision makers should consider pushing the game back a couple of hours. No matter when on Saturday, it will be a cold, cloudy, raw day, but the rain will enter early and exit as the day moves on.

I feel like this is going to be a little lower scoring (a lot lower if the weather is crappy).
I feel like the Dukes will be a significant favorite, but Rocco is a good coach and he should keep it competitive. Their crappy QB from the last 3 years, Joe Thomas, now leads the chickens in receiving yards. I will be very surprised if Rocco doesn’t have at least one play with him throwing off of a lateral or end around play.

Fake punts/kicks? Sure. Onside kicks? Why not.
The chickens will need to manufacture some points that they are not likely to get from their poor offense against JMU’s strong defense.

JMU 27
Delaware 13

Only competition would be ECU (on a good year). Granted, it doesn't hurt for FBS games that it's our one FBS opponent each year, but even for games against Towson, Richmond, etc we get several thousand in the Mid-Atlantic and usually 1k+ in New England. Plus I'm sure that if we joined a conference with more southern schools, most people would be much more agreeable to traveling south in the late fall as opposed to going to far north...
JMU travels very well, but since I have family in CT I've been the majority of the New England games going back the last doz years.
-@ UNH (06', 11', 13', 16')
-@ UMass (09', 11')
-@ Maine (08', 12')
-@ URI (12', 17').
-@ Albany (14') (yeah I know, not New England)

Unless my memory is failing me, JMU has never had 1k fans in the New England games I've been to. Pre MH were more like 250-500. Post MH more, but UNH 16' (mid Oct) and URI last year (early Nov) weren't 1k. I can't speak for early Nov @ UNH this year.

I do think its possible if had a Sept-early Oct New England game, with the fall foliage & before the weather turned cold. Next year have @ URI. Problem is its the last game 11/23.

UD's QBs:
Last night watched recording of the VU @ UD game. According to the commentators, the UD game notes had:
1. #12 Jr Pat Kehoe, 6'4"/240, started all of UD's games
2. #9 rSr JP Caruso, 6'0"/205. 2017 App State transfer. Started last 5 games last year. If you recall, Caruso came in during the last series or 2 vs JMU last year.
3. #2 rSr Darius Wade, 6'1"/225, started 5 games for BC last season and last Spring apparently was listed as the starter. Looking at their stats, hasn't thrown a pass all season. Don't know what happened with him.

Unlisted: #14 rFr Nolan Henderson, 6'0"/175.

-#3 rSr Joe Walker, 6'3"/205, the starting QB from the last 3 seasons, was moved to WR. From the UD games I've seen (vs Elon, UNH, and VU), the Elon & UNH games they brought in Walker at QB a handfull of plays a game at the wildcat. I don't recall seeing Walker play any wildcat vs VU.

Kehoe went down 1st quarter vs VU. The hit didn't look that bad. According to the commentators, the word from the UD sideline is Kehoe was going through "concussion protocols" The weird thing is, UD brought in the 175 lb rFr QB not listed on the depth chart, Henderson. Henderson went down in the 2nd quarter, and UD brought in the #2 QB, Caruso. Henderson came back in the 3rd qtr, but he was limping noticeably by late 4th qtr. Took a lot of hits.

From yesterday:
Rocco 'optimistic' QB Kehoe will play in NCAA playoff at JMU
https://www.delawareonline.com/story/spo...052076002/

I would be very surprised if Kehoe didn't play. Again, he didn't look like he got his bell rung that badly.

Still a ways off, but that would be great for me if they moved it. Saturday looks like a zero on the weather scale of 1-10. Freezing rain in the morning and cold rain and wind in the afternoon. Cold Rain is much worse than the freezing cold for the Sam Houston game.

I would take Delaware and all of those points if the weather stinks.

Maybe just part of the "protocol" ... but doesn't seem Kehoe is practicing.

Edit: looks like concussion protocol for Kehoe. What I've read from other NCAA fb team protocols, it seems to require doctor/medical review and sign-off before they can return to practice or play on the field.

RE: Delaware @ JMU 3pm 11/24
I've watched UD play 4 times on TV (URI, Elon, @ UNH, VU). From that & looking at their stats:

UD Offense
-#85 rSr TE Charles Scarff (6'6"/270) made 1st team on the just released All CAA. A HUGE target. They throw to him a lot.

-#7 Sr RB Kani Kane (6'0"/240) is a bruiser. A late fumble in FG range vs URI cost them that game. Only played one series vs VU, 0 carries. Commentators were speculating whether he was dealing with an injury. Didn't make the just released All CAA.

The UD offense does a lot of 2 TE set, ground and pound. If Kane can't go they become a little less effective at that. The back they started vs VU, and who got the bulk of the carries, is #33 Soph RB Dejoun Lee (5'7"/185). He's got a burst, but he isn't a power back like the 240 lb Kane. Their passing game is mediocre. If Kehoe can't go, not too worried about that. #3 converted rSr QB Joe Walker (3rd team All CAA) is probably their best WR). Again their TE is a HUGE target.

UD Defense:

Their defense was suppose to be very good, but they are only 10th CAA total defense. Their LBs are very good, but the rest of their defense not such much from what I've seen.

Their DL lost their 2 best DL from last year (both All CAA, 1 drafted), and the returning starter, #99 Sr Cam Kitchen, who made 3rd team on the just released All CAA, was injured vs VU. It didn't look good.

Their LBs in their 3-4 are good. Big. If they have any weakness they don't appear as quick.
-#9 Sr Troy Reeder (6'3"/245), 2016 PSU transfer. 3rd year starter, pre season All American, on the Buchanan watch list. Named 1st team on the just released All CAA. Leads the CAA in tackles.

-#5 Gr LB Charles Bell (6'0"/230) 3rd year starter, was a 2016 1st team All CAA at LB. Season ending injury last season vs JMU. Didn't make the just released All CAA.
https://bluehens.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8902

-#9 rSo Colby Reeder (6'3"/240), 2nd year starter.
-#7 Sr Ray Jones (6'0"/205), 4 yr year starter (last 3 in the secondary).

From what I've seen, their secondary appears mediocre. Their 2 time 1st team All CAA Safety #23 Sr Nassir Adderly is very good.

The UD beat writer says the top 3 QBs aren't practicing (Kehoe, Caruso, Henderson). Then, responding to a question about the BC transfer QB Wade, says he is injured (hasn't played all year). So its really their top 4 QBs not practicing now.

At least in practices, they are down to using WR Joe Walker, who played QB previously, and a (previously redshirt?) freshman QB Anthony Paoletti with no playing time.

Kehoe is probably still their best option if he can progress thru the protocol/recovery steps, which normally seem to require some medical tests that are compared to a "baseline" measurements taken earlier ... a lot more involved now than the old "what's your name? And how many fingers do you see?"

A true freshman who starred at a local high school about 8 miles from where I live (and about 5 miles from VU's campus). Threw for over 7k yards in HS.
