RE: Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 all left out of playoffs?

On the one hand they claim that conference wins don't mean anything, but then they justify the teams they like based on conference wins! Maybe Alabama really is the best team in the country - how would that change if we had champs-only, or better yet, P5 auto-bids plus 3 at-large? Bama would still get a chance to prove it - but so would 7 other teams. No, make that 9 other teams at minimum - the other P5 CCG participants, in what would then amount to a playoff "play-in" round.
* I won't include all champs because the drop off is too great, but if you want to pool them and give one auto-bid to the best G5 champ from all 5 conferences, you could make an argument for that.
I am against auto-bids because of the current divisional set-ups. If divisions were done away and what replaces it ensures that the two best teams in the conference face each other, than I am all for expanding to 8 with 5 auto-bids; a guaranteed best of the G5 slot; and the two best remaining teams overall of which only ONE of the two can be a P5 CCG loser.
Cheers,
Neil

Really rooting for this scenario. Playoffs need to expand to 8 with a guaranteed G5 spot.
If Georgia wins, yes, the PAC12, B1G, and Big12 are outside looking in. If Georgia loses and Oklahoma wins, Oklahoma is in. I just don’t think they’re going to put a 2 loss team in the playoffs.

Check this out:
Alabama wins big ( they’re -14.5 right now, I believe)
Clemson Loses big
Notre Dame is in already (idle, but undefeated)
Oklahoma loses
OSU loses
Michigan is idle with 2 losses
UCF wins big (undefeated)
I see this as the only possible way UCF has a chance of getting in. Even at that, I still think the committee would screw them.

I don't think we will ever know, because that is a highly-unlikely scenario.
I'm sure the committee would excuse Georgia's loss to Alabama....and setup a rematch in the Cotton Bowl.

I disagree. As with anything there would be trade-offs, some ESPN would favor, others that they wouldn't.
I think the biggest impact of the P5 autobid system would be a decline in inter-sectional games. Without a committee to impress, it becomes more important to focus on conference success. Increase the conference games to 9 across the board and the Labor Day matchups we enjoy currently disappear.
The second change would be the potential of the favorite losing to the underdog which will occur in the B1G CCG. If tOSU loses they fall back into the Wild card pool, leading to a potential rematch as well as eliminating some other non-conference winner from consideration.
The final issue will be what the G5 conferences would have to cede in order to get that guaranteed spot in the playoff. The P5 will not simply give that up with some sort of payment.

UCF's big problem this weekend is Memphis. Memphis just isn't the kind of opponent that UCF can earn a lot of brownie points against, even if they crush them. Memphis has already lost many games and been crushed already too.
