Because we try to beat it with the dribble instead of the pass and our players off the ball don’t move to create passing lanes. This is simply just fundamental basketball. I am sure they are being coached to do it. Lou is not dumb. Players have to be able to execute under pressure.

Just got back but that game was a blast to be at. The first half looked like a completely different team today. It helped that Stuckey was shooting lights out. Dwight didn't seem to get as many minutes which was interesting to me. When Phillips gets in a rhythm he looks good but I wish we could finish more of the fouls going to the rim and get a 3 point play. There were a couple of times when the foul came from a guard and I feel most big men could push through it and finish the basket. Overall I liked what I saw and I hope we can keep building towards CAA play.

Amen to your first sentence in particular. Convo got as loud as I've heard it in a long time last night. Better than normal student turnout and they were active from start to finish. Really good atmosphere that the players were able to feed from.

The scheme for beating the press is solid. We have a guy in the middle. What our guys are doing though is throwing these soft passes as well as dribbling into trouble and for some dumb reason picking up their dribble to be easily trapped.

They've got to fire passes with authority to the middle and then once there take off into the frontcourt...preferably getting a 2-on-1 situation where we should be aggressive to score (unless we are just trying to milk clock, which in that case Phillips needs to be off the court as he is atrocious from the FT line).

Really good (bounce back) win for the guys. Very proud of them. Their worst game (by far) followed by their best. Starting 4 sophs + 1 senior leads to some inconsistency. They need to get that out of their system and become more consistent with bringing their best each game. Can't blame this on youth forever. The CAA schedule is fast approaching. That's when things really start to matter in a 1-bid league. Just 2 more out of conference games.

I'm both encouraged that we won and discouraged. We still turned over the ball at too high of a rate. We also can't rely on our team to shoot over 50% from three. That is insane and more of a luck thing than anything else.

We also got nothing from our bigs. 7 points and 9 rebounds for around 50 minutes of playing time isn't going to cut it. Zach Jacobs had a pretty miserable stat line. He is usually good at being in the right place at the right time, but his stat sheet was mostly empty.

I'm super encouraged that we out rebounded a team once again and made our free throws to seal the deal.

I also say these things just looking at the stat line. I am overseas for work and didn't have the chance to watch the game unfortunately.

Oh also, go Dukes. I like this team for a lot of reasons, but really want to see consistency. Hopeful we crush Mason Saturday

Great bounce back win for the guys last night. Let's carry this momentum forward and put several good games in a row together and show we can do this on the road too.

The convo felt ALIVE last night, small crowd ---- but very involved crowd.

Nice to come here and see this result. If you had told me we would win this game AT ALL after starting out down 2-7, I’d have said you are a ******* crazy person.
I watched the first half and then about a qtr., then crapizone pulled its usual stunt of buffering every :45 seconds or so, so I just gave up.

Bit hard to stomach saying “good win” when it’s farking Radford. At HOME, but

Good win 03-puke

It's okay. Cent has a habit of showing up on the wrong day for games...

I get it, but in reality that was easily the best team we played this year. Very solid team and a good win. Happy for Lou and the team.

Nice win- obviously a few things to sure up- turnovers vs. the press, free throws, etc. but the offense looked a lot better. Get past Friday and these Dukes will have some much needed practice reps the next few weeks (and game rest). Rowe has been going to a small lineup at times which I think has been pretty effective in the half court moving the ball. He plays 4 guards and 1 big. Against Radford and most of the opponents from here on out JMU can use that lineup for stretches. ODU was an awful game on a tough day for JMU athletics. I think part of it was just an awful matchup for the Dukes- 2 7 footers to clog up the lane/drives and physical guards. In reality the Dukes won't see much of that this season.

5-2 with phillips healthy, and 6-1 if you discount ODU where he only played 8 minutes (Other loss with him was OT to Oral Roberts in his first game back from injury)

is he undervalued to us?

RE: MBB: Dukes host Radford (Tuesday, 7pm, MadiZone)
I was wrong in my prediction of not staying within 10 points of Radford. The one predictor site, believe it or not, had pegged JMU as a one-point victor (69-68), but I did not buy it (they came pretty close). That site still has Dukes only winning 11 games (D1), 6 in the CAA.

I think JMU's familiarity with Radford helped. Dukes' offense is still stilted and they still make things more difficult for themselves than they have to with missing a ton of second half free throws and with 3 turnovers in the last minute and a half of the game. They need to continue to work on their offense to the extent possible. One thing they did in the ODU game was run a two man pick and roll, but Jacobs would roll to the basket and Lewis would not look for him. And yes, like another poster indicated, scoring confined to only three guys raises a red flag.

I agree with the one poster that said that Radford is more talented than JMU (offensively skilled might be the better word). They're certainly smaller with three players listed at 6-1 or less in their rotation.

A good win in any event.
