If UT and Rice have scheduled a 6 year series in football, why the heck won't the shorthorns play the ponies in football (or men's basketball)? Is it because of a.) UT already plays the wonderful Boomer Sooners in Dallas annually, you'd think they would enjoy a chance to beat a team in Dallas once in awhile, b.) there are still hard feeling between the universities from the death penalty days, c.) teasips are scared to play SMU. d.) UT would rather get exposure in Houston than in Dallas

I'd like to hear some opinions.

Texa$ already has a game in Dallas and it's as high profile as they get, so they don't need a trip to Dallas. Houston and Rice, on the other hand, are good non-conference opponents as Texa$ has plenty of alumni there, will generally have more talent and be heavily favord to win. Rice is most attractive because of stadium capacity.

Obviously Texa$ isn't afraid of SMU, but the only way we'd get a game with them is if they needed to fill a home date and we were willing to play in Austin for the paycheck. As we improve and become more capable of pulling an upset, I wouldn't look for that game to be offered as Texa$ would have nothing to gain and everything to lose. Much easier to schedule UL-Monroe.
