I just listed the conferences that won banners in each year, at the time of each winning it. Thought it was interesting that beyond 2000, the Big Ten goes back to 1989, and Big XII before 2008 is 1988 then 1952. Not sure what the controversy is here or what the laughing is about.

I do believe that neither the Big East nor the American claim any of the Big East's 1979-2013 national championships as their own (at least each of their respective websites do not acknowledge them as such). Similarly, the ACC's official handbook does not recognize any of its newer members' past accomplishments as their own.

Several men's basketball programs have won national championships under the Big East brand - which was why the C7 and Fox valued it as such when the divorce occurred. It was, and is, recognized as a major college basketball conference identity. I don't think anyone is really arguing about who claims what - it is really a program's distinction and accomplishment.
