May 3-5 baseball
3 weekends (9 games weather permitting) left so crunch time is upon us. I've listed RPIs for the top 2 matchups as those 4 teams at this point are the ones with a realistic chance of an at large regional bid.
#45 FAU (15-6) at #37 USM (17-4)
#56 La Tech (12-9) at #75 ODU (9-12)
Rice (12-9) at WKU (11-9-1)
UTSA (9-12) at Marshall (10-11)
UAB (6-15) at FIU (8-13)
MTSU (9-12) at Charlotte (7-13-1)
**edit
Rice at WKU schedule change....Friday DH, nothing on Saturday, game 3 on Sunday

RE: May 3-5 baseball
Somewhat interesting in this weekend's matchups in that the teams sport almost identical overall records as their respective opponent. Not exactly sure on the 3 way tie for 7th so left them as is:
#2 FAU (30-14) at #1 USM (30-13)
#4 La Tech (28-17) at #T7 ODU (27-17)
#3 Rice (21-24) at #5 WKU (20-22-1)
#T7 UTSA (21-24) at #6 Marshall (23-22)
#12 UAB (20-25) at #10 FIU (19-25)
#T7 MTSU (16-28) at #11 Charlotte (16-26-1)
#45 FAU (15-6) at #37 USM (17-4)
1 vs 2 matchup in Hattiesburg. USM is on a 9 game overall winning streak, a 15-1 home record over their last 16 home games, and an overall 19-4 home record. USM has swept all 3 home CUSA matchups (Marshall, Charlotte, ODU) and could distance itself greatly for the regular season championship with a series win or sweep. FAU comes into the series with a 10-5 road record, has won 8 of their last 9 road games, and has yet to lose a road CUSA series (swept Charlotte, won 2/3 at UAB and WKU). For FAU to have a chance at the regular season title it will just about have to win the series.
#56 La Tech (12-9) at #75 ODU (9-12)
La Tech continues on its season long 9 game road swing and tries to rebound from a season long 5 game losing streak in which all 5 losses were on the road by 1 or 2 runs each. Prior to this current losing streak LT was 11-4 on the road. ODU sports a 17-9 home record while winning 8 of their last games in Norfolk. With ODU being in a 3 way tie for 7th this series is crucial for them in order to qualify for Biloxi
Rice (12-9) at WKU (11-9-1)
Rice had their season long 6 game win streak snapped last night vs Houston. Rice started CUSA play with 5 straight losses but since then has gone 12-4 in CUSA play. WKU has alternated losses and wins in their last 5 games but has a respectable 6-2-1 home record vs CUSA opponents FAU, UAB and Charlotte.
UTSA (9-12) at Marshall (10-11)
UTSA has won 3 of its last 4 road games as well as they've scored 6 or more runs in 8 of their last 13 games. Marshall has lost 7 of their last 8 overall including 2 of 3 to UAB and La Tech. Marshall has allowed 6 or more runs in 6 of their last 8 games as well.
UAB (6-15) at FIU (8-13)
In a battle of "coaches on the hot seat" UAB heads to FIU with a 4-13 road record which includes a 1-11 overall record in weekend road series (Ole Miss, WKU, LT, and MTSU). FIU has been a mixed bag at home as they took 2 of 3 from 1st place USM but they lost 2 of 3 from both Charlotte and WKU.
MTSU (9-12) at Charlotte (7-13-1)
MTSU has lost 6 of its last 7 overall with all 6 losses being to CUSA foes as well as they have struggled to a 4-16 overall road record. Charlotte meanwhile has lost 6 of its last 8 overall and looks to come back from an emotional midweek campus tragedy

We've got 8 games on the road in 10 days against some tough teams: @Southern Miss (37), @Sam Houston State (74), @Houston (42), @UTSA (143). We probably need to win at least 6 to stay on the bubble for an at-large bid.
Another series to keep an eye on this weekend for Florida Atlantic is ECU (5) @Cincinnati (102). Should the Bearcats take the series, it will help our RPI.
Looking forward to a great series @PTP.

FAU has a good chance to pull the upset this weekend IMO as USM is coming off an emotional win over an in-state P5 opponent that had the 5th largest crowd in school history of 5202. Not as much a factor but mother nature appears it will show up this weekend as Saturday's forecast calls for 90% thunderstorms starting early that morning (8 am is 60%). The 48 hour forecast is only up to 1 pm Saturday as of this post and it's saying the 90% is in full effect from 10 am until at least 1 pm (game time is 2 pm local)

RE: May 3-5 baseball
USM announced today that they’re doing a couple of things for the La Tech tornado recovery during the baseball and softball series this weekend.
1. All 50/50 raffle proceeds at the baseball game Friday night v FAU will go to the tornado recovery efforts
2. There will be a donation bucket out at the Softball series v LA Tech.
I’ll definitely be buying some raffle tickets Friday night, hope all USM and FAU fans there will do the same.

Thank you. All Louisiana Tech fans, alumni and players appreciate what our CUSA brothers have done in this time of need. Also, prayers for Charlotte while they try to cope with the tragedy that has struck their campus. It's been a tough few weeks for CUSA schools.

ODU pounded out 19 hits including 4 home runs in their series opening 14-6 win over Louisiana Tech. Game 2 of the series will take place at 3 PM (ET) tomorrow in Norfolk, VA.
EDIT: Earlier today the weather forecast for Norfolk was calling for 40% chance of rain Saturday and 80% chance on Sunday.
