Fermin Silva finishes his FIU career with 110 tackles, 14.5 sacks and 23.5 tackles-for-loss and was named to the C-USA All-Conference second team for efforts in 2017. In 2018, Silva played as a hybrid LB/DE, to allow him more opportunities to showcase his athleticism and rush the passer in a variety of ways, but suffered a season ending Achilles injury after three games.

Nice pickup for the Herd in a position of need for the coming year. Silva is also a Miami Central grad who is friends with Herd DE Marquis Couch.

He was once committed to Marshall for a day coming out of high school. He and Couch committed on the same trip.

This played out quite weird. There is no questioning his ability to rush the passer, but his explanation for wanting to transfer doesn't add up. I'm guessing he thought a P5 would pick him up, but when one didn't, he ended up transferring to a conference foe. He may fit Marshall's defensive scheme better than FIU. He supposedly was going to play LB last year, but almost all of his snaps came at the DE spot, where he is slightly undersized. Fermin is a very talented player and it will be weird watching him play against Marshall the last week of the season with a potential C-USA East title on the line.

Congrats to the Herd for picking up a quality pass rusher.
